The GOAT has to be rolling over in his grave at the idea of what late night talk shows have become. There will never be anything like him, or even remotely close.

I still do .

Im in my 40s, but im an old soul, im like an 85 year old guy mentally- and i remember the tail end of Johnny’s run.. so most nights as im getting ready to sleep i put on one of those retro tv channels, or one of the streaming sites like Tubi or Pluto where they play Johnny on a constant loop.. it’s a trip to see interviews from 40 and 50 years back.. also sobering to occasionally remind urself that when Johnny’s interviewing people like Dom Deluise and Burt Reynolds , and Ed’s sitting there on the couch- or even more ‘recent’ interviews from the early 90s like Garry Shandling or Bob Saget- and realizing that every last one of them is now dead.. i believe Doc Severinson is the last remaining regular from that show .

Johnny was peak television. Funny without trying too hard or being extremely annoying like these clowns now. Fallon and Kimmel suck. That fricking ginger is the most annoying human on earth and needs a beating.

Carson had a massive ego and could be a real jerk but he was great TV. You know he almost bought a casino in Vegas but he was outbid by Wayne Newton! ??

My grandpa always told me that Johnny Carson purchased land new at the I-10/12/59 split in Louisiana because it was the only place in the country where three interstates intersected like they do right there.

At least he didn’t get on power trips with his guests or feel the need to, as shown by the chair heights on set.

Johnny had such a quick wit. The only other talk show host who comes close in Conan.

Yep… Conan was so far above his peers when it came to interviewing. Here’s a cool video I found that talks about it.

Whole video is great, but I especially like this part…

You should watch videos of what Carson or Carson’s people did to Joan Rivers. As she started to outshine Carson, he slowly shrunk her appearances and at the end waited too long on a contract renewal in which she left for the upstart Fox network because they were willing to pay her. She never was able to talk with Carson directly or his people again once she left. Was it business or was it his ego that was bruised in that conundrum.

Carson and Carol Wayne, Tea Time Movie skits

Carson: So friends get in your car, your truck, your bus, your recreational vehicle…
Wayne: I love recreational vehicles.
Carson: My Dear, you are a recreational vehicle.

Even if he lived to be100, he would still be more talented than these new guys.
I still watch reels about him. I love when animals were brought to the show
