I know a lot of it has to do with talent, but so far in every game they have looked badly unprepared on offense.

Surprising from a Kellen Moore offense. This makes me wonder if Moore has given too much control to Nussmeier as OC. Being HC it's understandable he cannot focus all his time on offense but I wonder how much he is actually controlling.

Think Dennis Allen going from defensive coordinator to HC. The defense fell way off once he was no longer the main driving force of the defense. ( And because he was the HC the whole team fell way off as well.)

I've never though of Nussmeier as a great offensive mind, kind of like Carmichael & Payton, once CSP was gone the real Carmichael was exposed. Maybe Moore isn't as involved as he should be on offense. I could see a young HC giving a little too much leeway to an an older OC who may not have the chops to get the job done.

If you watch the breakdowns of the non-dumpster fire weeks (CHI and SEA), Moore is scheming plenty open. Rattler simply refused to throw to the deeper guys, hence all the checkdowns that go nowhere.

I’m not sure what exactly you were expecting from this offense. It was never going to be good or great with the personnel, but I’ve seen flashes of good play calling from KM

And it’s hard when your QB is mainly just making the first read and that’s it. I’ve seen a lot of play calls with guys open but Rattler just not seeing them or checking it down instead

That 3rd and 20 play this week was beautifully designed but Taysom messed up the throw. A lot of shite just comes down to execution from the players

Also have to ask how much is he handcuffed because of the roster. Hs options are a 5th round 2nd year guy with a few games under his belt, or a rookie 2nd round pick. His #1 WR would be a #2 or #3 on almost every other team. His TE is able to get open, make great catches on contested catches, but will also drop easy passes, fumbles too much, and will have mental lapses. His offensive line cannot open running lanes or pass block with any consistency. And his #1 RB is on the back side of his career, while the #2 shows flashes to be the #1 guy but can't stay healthy.

Will be interesting to see how this offense changes with Shough at the realm. Does he open it up more to fit Shough's strengths, does he have to simplify it more because of Shough's understanding. Will we see more stretch plays. How does he adjust in the red zone...

At this time, we have no idea who is better between Rattler or Shough; but we do know they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. So how does KM and GN adjust their gameplan for a new QB

Rattler is indecisive and/or is not processing information quickly. That's been his problem well before joining the Saints. The physical ability has always been there.

Not surprising when you have a not-so-great QB playing for his job, and protecting his stat lines by not throwing downfield

It also feels like most defenses are using a two-deep shell and letting us throw short routes underneath, knowing that our 5'9" receivers can't break a tackle to save their lives

Drew Brees knew every route tree.. So when Option 1 was not available, he knew exactly where every other receiver SHOULD be on a play. With Rattler it feels like he looks for the primary route, and if that's not there he just starts looking around for an open guy, with no regard to how that guy got there, where the defense may be around him, etc. That takes longer, and by the time he throws it, the window is closed and then you see like the Bears who were jumping routes all over the field

We currently have:

- A QB who isn't accurate

- Decent receivers in Olave (who can't make the big play) and Shaheed (struggles to get open)

- The worst TE in the league in Juwan Johnson

- A spent Kamara who is mentally retired

- Piss poor guards and now a hurt center

For Kellan Moore to get anything out of this group is kind of amazing.

Personally I’m pretty pleased with what we’ve seen from the scheme. I think we just need players.

I've seen Rattler look at the wide open receiver and either check down or run. Wtf?

With that said, Brees has checked down plenty of times when he looked directly at a wide open receiver. It boggles my mind when they do because my first thought is these frickers are point shaving.

18 PPG will do that. Red zone offense isn't great either. Now McCoy is out for the season expect more crap offense.

It has everything to do with talent.

The NFL is an insanely hard league to win games in even with a solid roster. This is a bottom 3 roster.

If anything I think we’re looking significantly better than I expected on offense given the personnel.

This. If we had a QB that would read progressions, Cooks would have 4+ touchdowns. He is taking the top off of defenses every game.

I wasn't expecting great or even good, but I kind of thought they would at least look prepared on the first and second quarters of games.

They haven't and it's a glaring issue that everyone in sports media that cover NFL football can see, and seems surprised about given Moore's history and past offenses he's coached Even if they went good they never looked as lost as this teams does in the beginnings of games. The fact that they improve throughout the games shows me that can make in game changes and adjustments.

I haven't looked up the actual stats, but I'll bet the home and road splits are different from one another

The two games where we just got pushed around both happened on the road where at least at home they were competitive.

Yea I can’t remember the last year where LSU/Saints fans had to watch an inept offense on Saturday and Sunday. This football season can go screw itself

Most of the things I’ve read seem to fall the opposite way. They think they’re punching over their weight considering how historically bad a lot of people thought they’d be.

The fact that Atlanta for all of their elite offensive talent is 18.3 PPG to our 17.9 PPG is actually hilarious.

Yet the saddest part is NYJ and their anemic offense is 18.4 PPG
