He was lauded for years for keeping the Steelers above .500 every year, which is impressive considering some of the teams, but he’s also won one playoff game since 2017. The team has looked helpless, old, and truly mediocre pretty much this whole decade.

If I was a Steelers fan, I wouldn’t be satisfied with never sucking, but never being a contender either. This team is so far from winning the super bowl and their last three QBs have been Sus Russ, Fields, and geriatric Rodgers. They have no vision.

They're 4-2 and leading the division.

Calm down.

We seem to have this conversation every year.

And Rodgers has been at worst, a B+

I’m not sure, but he’s been there for 2 decades so I would assume he has a pretty big influence in personnel

They beat the Jets, Vikings, and Browns. I’ll give them credit for a good Patriots win.

I think they’ll be underdogs in 8 of their last 11 and short, short favorites against teams like the Bengals at home and Dolphins. They’ll be 9-8 again this year

It was the previous GM's(Colbert) mess. The current GM, Khan, has done a good job of cleaning up that mess

People act like losing to Cincy is the end of the world. They still have crazy skill talent and now a QB, albeit he's 40, that can get them the ball. They are better than their record indicates

We'll revisit this in January

Rodgers is playing fine. The defense was the problem last night. They're not playing up to their usual standard.

And he’s pretty much already told us he’s retiring after this year. It’s Rodgers so who the hell knows, but they seemingly have had no plans at qb for several years. If Rodgers decided he didn’t want to play for them for whatever reason, they were totally screwed.

What’s the 5 year plan for the franchise? I don’t see it

Any time the Steelers lose, this conversation pops up.

That is due to the the previous GM, Colbert, not having a clear succession plan post-Ben.

He took Pickett at #20, who bombed(and whom I was wrong about), his last few drafts sucked, and he left Khan a mess which he has just now gotten cleaned up.

If Rodgers does retire at 42/43, they'll have their shot at the next group of young veterans. Top 2 off the top of my head are Flacco will only be 41, Cousins will be looking to get out of Atl at 38

should count his lucky stars that his division shits the bed so often.

Usually you can count on the Ravens to be good but not without Lamar...and that defense is awful. They have a tough road to dig out of a 1-5 start

The Bengals losing Burrow pretty much killed their division hopes...except they also are lucky as hell to play in the AFC North so still have a shot.

The Browns are the Browns.

But the fact that the Steelers may be the only team in the division to sniff .500 this year despite a weak defense and an ancient QB is pretty funny.

Hard to win without a good QB, and since Big Ben retired they have been trash on offense.

The Pickett flop messed them up. Taking a 2nd tier QB in the mid to late 1st round is risky. They were probably timid of taking Dart in the ‘25 draft because of how Pickett turned out.

Rodgers has been playing well this year. I’d say the plan would be to go the retread route in a stable organization and maybe go with Mac Jones who I think the next candidate for this path, but Arthur smith isn’t exactly a QB whisperer.

They’re kind of in that decent but not really great territory which I believe Cowher was in for several years before turning it around (can’t really remember exactly though).

Another knock on Tomlin, imo. I guess he tried the Matt Canada experiment. But he’s the old school NFL guy that brings in uninspiring old school NFL guys that continue to be mid at best

I think it’s the biggest one honestly. I think he’s totally capable of retooling the defense and getting them playing at a championship level again but he needs to be willing to grow and modernize on the other side. Like he’s 53, he definitely has the runway for a second act.
