I feel like it should be charged as an error on the WR.

Imagine baseball ERA’s if there’s no such thing as an “error”

There’s really no other way to categorize it right now. But it shouldn’t be an INT. Needs to be in a category of a fumble.

Yes there is. We’ve had advanced analytics on exactly this for years

Yes it should. An interception is when the quarterback throws it to the other team. It’s a counting stat

Isn't that why we have "turnover-worthy plays"?

Another example is Hail Marys. You're just chucking the ball up for grabs at the end of a half because you have no other option. Those aren't really an indictment of the QBs decision making.

What about when the quarterback throws the ball directly to the defender and the defender just drops it? Should he be charged with an interception there?

Overall I think there are far more dropped interceptions than there are good passes that become interceptions.

I remember JoJo LaFell basically lateraling the ball to Auburn in '07-ish

I did. An interception is a counting stat and every interception is just that, an interception.

We have advanced stats on how many a qb should have thrown too.

You should do better at not being a dumbass and then doubling down on it

If a corner makes a great play on the ball and bobbles it, then the WR catches it, should it not count as a catch?

If a RB takes a screen pass to the house, should it count as a touchdown for the QB?
