I checked their website and FB page. They haven't posted any shows since June. Last event was LSU game on the big screen in August. Nothing on their event calendar. Have we lost this once great music venue?

Pretty much. Gotta book shows to be a venue.

It’s been very very sporadic since reopening after Covid. Like 4 or 5 weeks between some shows.

Chelsea’s has pretty much cornered the market on live stuff now.

Lots of great memories at The Varsity. Will be sad to see it go if true

On a different note, I'm wondering when this place peaked? 80's? 90's?
I remember back in the mid 90's they had events 3-4 nights in a row.

I do believe it is closed which sucks as they've had some fairly big names play here

Isn't The Varsity now The Rev? Or am I mixing up two places?

The Revelry is next door to the Varsity.

I think they still book private events in that space

Since Tim Hood’s passing in 2015, The Varsity appears to have faced challenges over the past several years—the venue has struggled to regain its footing.

I’m surprised they haven’t aligned with Live Nation, particularly as the company is currently investing $1 billion in the next 18 months into live entertainment venues nationwide.

The Varsity is a historic institution that deserves to continue, but it clearly needs a refresh to remain competitive. It may already be losing ground, as Chelsea’s Live seems to have stepped in—though, in my opinion, it’s not an especially remarkable venue.

Add L'auberg too.

Always some well-known names playing there.
They have indoor and outdoor concerts almost every week.

And Texas Club. They get a lot of up and coming country artists and some pretty decent sized names. I've seen Hudson Westbrook, Ernest, Ty Myers, Corey Kent, John Foster and others there in the last year.

I’m showing my age, but I feel like peak Varsity was the run of bookers from Glenn to Chris to Alex.

The casino is getting good acts because I believe Chris is booking it now (plus casino money).

I’m sure someone will dispute me but BR just isn’t as appealing as NOLA when routing a tour. You have to pull more people from NOLA to a show in BR than would be required if you put the show in NOLA where BR fans are used to traveling.

Maybe you just consider BR if you’re trying to play Biloxi/Gulfport before the radius blackout ends. Or casinos. Casinos.
