Someone got me Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard many many many moons ago. A couple pages in and I realized Hubbard and my friend were bat shite crazy.

There was some little Scientology bookstore (not Christian Science Reading Room, which isn’t just a ton better) on Jefferson in Baton Rouge. I remember going in there as a kid while my mom was getting a haircut or something. I was blown away even then. I mean wtf.

A girl I dated briefly in college gave me a copy of Dianetics. From memory, I got about 150 pages in, and realized all the book did was talk about how great “the process” is, without explaining what or why. Threw it away.

Scientology is a Cash Cow more than a religion. If you'd ever been to Hollywood and seen the Mother Ship you would understand why.

I recall seeing the book title "Dianetics" and the author's name "L. Ron Hubbard " in book stores back in the 70's, maybe 80's.
I had no idea what they were about, but that title and the unusual first name initial just stood out. I don't think I ever connected it with Scientology, and I was surprised to learn the book was released in 1950. I thought it was new at the time.

But ban then? No. File charges for illegal acts. And cut the tax breaks to religions, as that just gets the government involved in determining what is a 'legit' religion. Keep the government out of it.
