I was appalled to learn that EMTs only average a salary of $41,000 a year.

On the other hand, I think that real estate agents are grossly overpaid. Why do people even need real estate agents?

In my city Firefighters starting pay is $11. To me that's crazy. You make more at McDonalds.

Around where I live, if you can become an EMT and then become a firefighter, you can work your way up to like $140,000 per year. Now obviously there’s danger.

What EMTs are paid not very well by companies like AMR. And you’re out in the middle of the night working.

Underpaid: Pediatric/Congenital Heart Surgeon

Their starting pay is about half of what an adult heart surgeon makes and they have about 2 extra years of training. They don’t start making a real salary until they are about 37-38 years old. Residency and Fellowship pay up until that time averages in the $70-80,000/year range.

Well, it takes 13-14 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition to become one so they probably should be paid well.

Professional athletes are extremely overpaid, but we're the ones still buying tickets at those high prices.

I’m gonna disagree there. I understand it’s a long road but I’ve been at some places where those guys made a lot of money like seven figures.

Plus for those guys it’s usually about a lot more than just the money.

Real estate agents are 100% commission. 1,000,000 in sales at 6% split 50/50 between listing and buyers agent and split 60/40 with the broker equates to $18000.

They have to hustle to make $100k.

Underpaid - I will say Good Firemen, Good Policemen, & Good Teachers (notice I said the Good ones).

Overpaid - Trial attorneys & CEO's for any public company/corporation (especially the ones that get bonuses when the company is not doing good)

I think a lot of folks equate EMTs to paramedics, different training and skillsets, and different pay

Yeah sure, until you get that 75 million dollar lawsuit when you miss a stroke while sipping your mai tai.
