It's crazy that some car dealerships are asking above new MSRP for used vehicles

With all the news about the used car market struggling, I still see listings for USED vehicles priced above NEW MSRP.

Of course most of these places use "no haggle market based pricing" where they will not negotiate on price. The advertised price is it. But what they do is drop the price little by little until they finally sell the vehicle.

I guess from a dealership point of view its a best practice but it's crazy how some models are still selling for above new MSRP.

As an example the new Lexus GX model is consistently listed used for above new price.

There are very few cars like this. The reason the GX is that way is they are super hard to get.

Got a link to a used model listed above new model MSRP? I haven’t been seeing this.

I think used pricing is still inflated, and maybe the next 6-12 months sees gobs of repos and the bottom drops out, but dealers can afford to sit on inventory now as they made a mint in the COVID boom

All you have to do is be willing to wait. Some people don’t and have the money to spend. Blame those people and not the dealer

Dealerships take advantage of having more information than their customers and manipulating information. If you walk into a dealership and show you’re an informed customer, they’ll generally ignore you. If you act like you don’t know anything, they’re all over you

There can't be more than a handful of every day drivers in this boat, too.

I think Land Cruisers are at MSRP these days, even.

Ive never paid ADM for any of em, but I have paid MSRP for a limited or in-drmand car.

Paying new -MSRP for anything used is crazy.

This whole thing doesn't make sense. Cars, housing, and other things are outrageously overpriced. I really don't understand how and why people keep buying.

As they continue to add more and more electronic this and that the older vehicles without all that crap are more and more desirable.

For examlle, My market wants now are a pre '76 C10/K10 or a 12 valve Cummins Dodge 3500.

They are? I see them everywhere. I can't drive more than 5 minutes without seeing at least 2 of them.

I barely see any new land cruisers though.

I remember seeing this quite a bit during supply chain issues for Covid but haven’t noticed it in quite a while.

Market forces, someone is paying it. Our economy works when people do dumb financial things as one offs, it doesn't work when people are making dumb financial decisions en masse and it is all debt driven.

Don’t they have a wait list for these? Makes sense that someone would pay more to get one now

As long as people will buy at high prices, businesses will sell at high prices.
