Are people losing their federal jobs or is this another dog and pony show?

I have been hearing the OMB Director was going to terminate 100's of 1000's of jobs. If it has not happened yet then chances are extremely high it will not happen.

Why would he want to lose all credibility? Cut everywhere, including all non-essentials. Then, slowly hire back what is needed.

I'm hearing that they're currently working on their plan. I expect cuts to be announced sometime this week, maybe even Monday.

If they don't announce anything this week, I'll be incredibly disappointed.

I think it’s all a good direction from where we were a year ago.

100%. It blows my mind that some people don't understand that.

I think this a good time to remember that while wanting to trim the government of redundant or absolutely useless positions... there are still people losing jobs and not all of them are OMB.

I'm all in on good cuts, but I'm not about to gloat over regular people losing their livelihoods.

No one cares when people lose their jobs working for private companies. Why should I care when inefficient government employees lose their jobs?

It's not that I care... just that the gloating doesn't seem very good.

I don't know Mary from HR... so I can't really care one way or the other if she loses her job. I'm not salivating at her job loss or gloating over it, though.

Been hearing this hot air since 2015. “Lock her up.”
All BS to incite emotions of voting base.

I think if the cuts come there will be some very good intended benefits. The vast majority of federal workers are liberal democrats. These same individuals end up in positions were they use their "discretion". Our social programs are overwhelmed by fraud, glaring fraud and we continue to let it happen.

If those people are sent home it sends a strong signal to the rest to follow the law, not what the "think" is best regarding social programs.

One simple example, do we think 1000s of Indian truck drivers, all on their own, somehow found themselves in the United States and by luck figured out they could go to cali or ny and get a cdl with absolutely no papers? That takes coordination on many levels from a state and federal level.

Fake news from fake news media. And they will get back pay when government reopens. Free vacation for them; many that do absolutely nothing, anyway.

There is no gloat, especially for someone who loses their job when they have known, deep down inside, they were non-essential and only getting paid as a government employee to simply vote the democratic ticket.

Who is going to vote for smaller government when employed in government?

My issue won’t be that they didn’t get fired if there are legitimate legal issues prohibiting them from doing so.

My issue will be that yet again they will have gone off screaming about (ahead of not after) some grand action that doesn’t happen.

Even if you intend to do something earnestly, announcing it to your opponent does nothing but help them defend against it.

I suspect it was just a negotiation tactic that didn’t end up working in this case but will be pleased if it ends up happening.

It was all a bluff to try and get Dems to negotiate.

The deferred resignations got them to the numbers they wanted and below in a lot of cases. They actually lost too many people. Contrary to the narrative here the gov is understaffed at this point.
