NEW: China officially opens the world’s tallest bridge, completing the project in under 4 years.

The bridge features a restaurant at the top, a whopping 2600 ft above the river.

The bridge not only cuts a 2-hour drive to 2 minutes, but also features as a theme park with a glass skywalk, a high-speed glass elevator, and a waterfall off the edge of the bridge.

Visitors can also bungee jump off of it.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is 2050 feet above the river and spans 4600 feet over the river.

quote:

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge soars about 2,050 feet above a river and gorge in the southern Chinese province of Guizhou. It is more than twice as high as the Royal Gorge Bridge, which is suspended 956 feet above the Arkansas River in Colorado and is the highest in the United States.

We could complete projects on the same timeline in America if the government could rape the environment, take people’s land without negotiation, and bid without competition.

What if China is actually kicking our asses these days and has surpassed us for good?

Certainly not from the LADOT employees but the state has some fantastic contractors and engineering firms.

Sure. I would be concerned if the supports were particularly tall, but they don’t appear to be. And while the span is obviously crazy high up, it’s not like gravity gives a shite. Also, if the span does fall, you’re not going to be any more dead than if you had dropped from a bridge that was “only” a hundred feet off the ground.

Basically, all of the “scary” bits are ones of perception, not reality.

Unless it just falls down because it’s a piece of shite Chinese bridge, but that’s a separate issue entirely

Go read up on the Opium Wars. China has taken a page out of that playbook and turned it on us with fentanyl. That and vestiges of their Cultural Revolution from 60 years ago.

Imagine trying to make this in the US today. You’d have hundreds of new millionaires who grifted off the project and would be left with a rickety looking piece of shite that everyone would be too scared to even try driving over
