BEAUFORT COUNTY, Sc. (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said they are conducting an internal investigation due to an incident involving an off-duty deputy.
At around 6:47 p.m. Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office responded to calls about a disturbance in a community on Hilton Head.
When the deputies’ got there, they found an off-duty deputy involved in an incident in the neighborhood where he lives.
The deputy was suspended without pay shortly after the incident.
The sheriff’s office said he was relieved of his credentials, badge, sheriff’s office issued weapons, and equipment by a command staff member who responded to the scene.
“Deputies are held to a higher standard, as they must abide by all BCSO policies and procedures, both on and off duty. The Internal Affairs Investigation is an administrative investigation that could take some time to complete, with multiple people needing to be interviewed,” wrote the sheriff’s office in a press release.

I wonder if the kids were cited for misdemeanor trespassing?
Also, the officer had no business pulling on his gun on and physically harassing unarmed teens. He did not inform them of their rights. He illegally attempted to seize one of their backpacks without proper procedure.
He has no business being a LEO

Pretty much. Except at least the cop lived there and it appears the kids didn't. People pay good money to live in private communities and do so to avoid POS kids and their POS parents.

Back in my day, the deputy woulda whipped out his slapjack.

SUSPENDED is what should be expected while they sort out the facts which is surely why it was initially referred to IA.
Suspended without pay and removal of authority and weapons are functions of IA and indicate that this is thought to be very serious.
Calling the SLED (state law enforcement division) is another indicator that removal and/or prosecution is possible. It is appropriate to have an outside agency look into such matters to reduce claims of favoritism.
It looks like the system is functioning correctly after the employee acted suspiciously.
The thing to do is keep watching to see what facts are released and actions are taken.

I read that the homeowners told the deputy the teens had pulled a gun on them

The cop lives in one of the trashier neighborhoods on Hilton Head. The kids are likely from a higher caste if they live nearby but not on that street.

Private community. Period.

Cop was probably wrong from what I’ve see. But independent of that…I think white kids who insist on talking like black gangstas should have guns pulled on them since they want so badly to be “bout that life”.

Both parties are wrong. But this is not national news, just keep it there locally and deal with it rather than trying to gaslight the world. This gets old seeing things that should be handled locally.

Kinda right and kinda wrong. We have had a family house on HH for almost 70 years and there are two types of homes there: plantation and off plantation homes. It is generally considered a division between the haves and the have less. The neighborhood in question is arguably the nicest and largest of the off plantation neighborhoods and is gated unlike most off plantation neighborhoods. As large as the neighborhood is and as many short term rentals that exist unless they were doing something wrong I don't know why he was even questioning them. Growing up we used to walk around all the (gated) neighborhoods and were never accosted. The world is different now but HH is pretty insular but there are always Karens.

Sound like some smartass little entitled fricks, and at least one of them assaults the deputy after he has identified himself as LE.
But I'm sure their Gen X parents are only protecting their innocent little babies.
Seriously, and I am Gen X, we are the worst parents ever....

Exactly how did he assault him? Verbally?

In one of the videos you can clearly see the kid in the red shirt hit him in the face.
Are you blind or just have blinders on?

Do you mean after the officer in shorts illegally seized another teen’s backpack without a word and the teen attempted to get it back and the officer in shorts then assaulted the other teen?
Were the teens charged with any crimes such as assault?
Was the officer suspended without pay?
