I'm honestly surprised there are that many people paying for Game Pass month to month.

I feel like we’re getting really close to all consumer spending crashing. Prices have gone up and up and people are finally starting to get tired of it. This, YouTube tv being a c note every month, systems being $500, on and on

I just cancelled. It was hardly worth it at 15 bucks a month. Definitely not paying 30.

“…for a limited time only.”

It's not just the month-to-month folks. My sub runs through November 2026, but I went to the website to turn off the auto-renewal.

I turn that off automatically anyway.

Logically, I want to believe that. But, remember the parable of the frog in the water. And, people spend $22 Door Dashing $7 worth of shitty tacos. I knew a TCU senior that "accidentally " dropped $800-1000 a month on skins for some online POS game (charged to dad's card, of course) before his dad caught it (yes, OT rich.)

There comes a point where the increasing price intersects with decreasing value of a services that instinctively triggers a compulsive reaction to cancel.
I complained about Prime for years. When they started feeding advertisements it triggered me unchecked the auto renew.

I did that Xbox Gold or whatever trick like two years ago to get it for $5 a month. It runs out next month.
If there's no tricks like that left (haven't googled) I probably wont extend it.

I don't think that trick still exists. I've been extending mine for years now using Microsoft Rewards points. They aren't doing direct purchase of Game Pass via MS Rewards anymore, but can still do it by converting them to XBox gift cards. I've currently got Game Pass through sometime in 2027 and am now just going to stockpile rewards points for gift cards to keep it going.
The only time I've paid for Game Pass, outside of the initial buy-in whenever they announced the program, is when I did the zero interest payment plan thing for the Series X.

I just checked and I'm good until Feb 2027.
I've started several threads on here about Gamepass deals and they never generated much interest.
I don't ever pay full price. Woot!, CDKeys, (now Loaded) etc. will eventually have a sale and there is always Black Friday etc. I can't see many people paying retail. I've always paid less than $10 month.

I would definitely encourage you to look into Microsoft Rewards. As long as your Microsoft account is connected to you Xbox account, it's super easy and you gain reward points by playing games.
Like you, I've been telling people about this for as long as it's been possible. I even started a thread for easy game achievements back when they were doing the "10,000 rewards points for 10,000 gameracore" thing. I can't imagine why anyone would be paying full price for this service. I have been paying literally nothing for years now, and don't see that trend slowing down for the foreseeable future.

I have about $50 in Microsoft Rewards right now. I need to pay more attention to maximize my earning/redemption though.
I think the endgame of this is there will be sales to encourage people to have longer memberships instead of the month to month or even worse for them having it for a month and then letting it slide for a few months. They want stability and to lower churn. They will dangle a lower priced yearly subscription to lock people in.
It's the same with all of the streaming services etc., if you play the game, you pay nowhere near retail.

I cancelled my PS Plus account probably 4'ish years ago after a massive price hike and haven't missed it once. These services start with a nominal fee and then just go up and up and up but the value you get from them never goes up with the price. Game pass was clearly a great value for a long time but it was obviously never going to stay that way. They were likely running it a big loss trying to grow it and eventually that had to change.

I will on occasionally pay $18 for one month for the Ubisoft service and catch up on new releases. Other than that I pay for no gaming services and since the new game releases for the last couple of years have been crap for game in my wheelhouse I I only purchased maybe four games in that time.
