Did we ignore other CB recruits because of Jackson?

as of now we have no official cornerback in this class now. Kinda sucks.
I don't understand why a kid would commit so early to LSU, and only to not even tell Les Miles until today that he isnt coming here. Pretty shitty of Janzen Jackson

The way they handle the situation was not classy at all and fricked LSU from the inside out. If he wanted to go to Tennessee, fine, but don't frick LSU over. At least let us know ahead of time and stop lying to the media hes solid.
CB will probably be one of the bigger needs next year with a power back need.

that's why I worry about these guys who commit real early...the see all the attention the uncommitted guys get, and start to feel taken for granted. Then another school comes along and rolls out the red carpet...

I would think so.
We have a very young group of CB's though, so it is understandable for recruits to see that as a threat of less playtime.

Don't we have like 6-8 highly touted cornerbacks on the roster already?

thats what im reading. he knew for weeks he was going to Tenn but kept quit and his dad told LSU coaches he was still committed. Meanwhile we stoped recruiting the DB pos because we took him and his dad at their word. frick Them if what we are reading is true!

4 of them are Sophomores next year. 1 Junior. 1 SR.

i wouldnt say 8, but still. You dont want to get shut out at any position really in a given year. Thats how I see it at least.

He was scared of the depth (Jackson) also we have Calhoun and Claiborne who can play CB or WR, so we got some skill players. Dont forget John Williams who can play both as well

I dont think he's scared of depth. He prob would have passed most of those guys up on the depth chart.

I am sure we would have recruited someone else. If you think about it though were we after many other CBs i think he might have been one of the few we would have taken. We are loaded at DB.

Brooks, Peterson, Hawkins, P. Jones, Brandon Taylor, Claiborne, we are in good shape.

i agree he would have past those guys as well, but when you are a 17 year old and you look at our talent and then coaches at Tenn tell you that you may start because of their talent! It might not be that he was scared, rather just wanted to play now...

Maybe another position?
i think Tenn wants him to play safety
but in most article i read, LSU pretty much assured him he would play in the nickel, at worst be out dime DB

It seems like Janzen would rather be a free safety than a cornerback. Both Bama and UT recruited him to play free safety.
The secondary is clearly thin this year, with just Loston and possibly Claiborne coming in. However, last year, we brought in three excellent players: Brandon Taylor, Karnell Hatcher, and Patrick Peterson, so the depth chart could be tough to break for a freshman CB/FS. Especially if Loston comes in and plays strong safety, then we could have our secondary completely in place for the next few years.
Still, it is very frustrating that Janzen deliberately misled LSU and prevented the Tigers from signing another top talent. It is always possible for one of the four aforementioned players to not pan out, get injured, or get into trouble off the field.
However, since we have no corners in our entire class, we should be able to sign some good ones next year. We could also poach some guys from TN and South Carolina because they both signed a TON of players in the secondary, this year.
