ST. AMANT — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal shooting involving a state trooper that happened early Tuesday morning in St. Amant.

Around 2 a.m., Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit detectives began investigating the shooting.

According to LSP, a trooper initiated a traffic stop at the corner of La. 431 and La. 935. During the traffic stop, the trooper "discharged his service weapon," resulting in one person being taken to the hospital before being later pronounced dead.

The trooper was uninjured, officials added.

There's more to it. Stringer bridge road is also closed about a mile away from where car ended up over by St. Amant High.

431 & 935 is at the high school. 935 is Stringer Bridge, so I wonder if the guy ran on foot after the stop and was chased to Delaunes where he got shot? Troopers were blocking off the entrances to Delaunes when I passed.

This is kind of off topic but relevant to me. My son is a Firefighter, he's on the FD where I retired from in 2017, did 26 years. He's been there for 3 years and is quitting to become a State Trooper. I am not excited about it because of crap like this, those guys are out there by themselves with help who knows how far away with deputy Barney Fife with his 1 bullet in his pocket on his way. I try and be supportive of him when talking to him about it, but I just don't like it, I've seen the crap they have to deal with. On the FD, for the most part, people are happy to see us when we arrive, we're there to help someone, the Police/Troopers are different, when they are called, someone is usually going to jail and are mad and who knows what they will do. The FD has its own dangers, but you just don't see the number of injuries and death due to other people being crazy, we dealt with crazy people, but cops deal with a whole other level of crazy. God bless those who are willing to do the job but now it's hitting close to home, especially since he and his wife just had their first baby and my first grandchild. Anyway, enough of my insecurities about his future career, I just pray for his safety.
