If we don't see MVB against SCe

Then you know that BK is as bad as Miles ever was, without a doubt... and in fact, he's gone from protecting Nuss to protecting himself.
The SEC is not a place to come and be loyal to upper classmen, NIL stars, etc. You're job is to win.
The overwhelming strategy against LSU on 3rd and long right now is to drop 7 or 8 and that is yielding over a 70% success rate. A scrambling QB erases that strategy immediately.
Immediately. Now, do we know if MVB is the answer long term? No. Of course not, but you're two biggest issues right now are 2nd and 10 after a 1st down incompletion and then the subsequent 3rd and 10+.
You can't even worry about MVB accuracy or playbook knowledge yet because you have a 100% identified roadblock with Nuss that you have 0% success in overcoming thusfar. You have to fix that. You dont have a choice but to address that first.

Maybe MVB is worse than an injured Nuss? Last season, he was 1-7 as a starter. He threw 11 TD but also 7 INT and had 69 rushes for -12 yards.

Not necessarily. He could be a TJ Finley redux-- start against SC in his first start, and shine, and then become a complete failure in subsequent starts.

You’re gonna have to explain this logic to me. You think a coach is “protecting himself” by intentionally putting a worse player on the field?
If Nuss starts against USCe it probably just means the staff think he’s better than MVB. We can all argue about whether that’s true or not, but it doesn’t mean there’s any grand conspiracy.

Only way this happens is if the Coaching staff aknowledges Nuss' injury and say hes going to sit out and get healthy.
You're not benching Nuss. You're also going to be in for a rude awakening if this does happen. Everyone always thinks the backup QB is the answer. Hes not. Hes also not the Dynamic runner everyone thinks he is. He is very mobile and athletic but hes not Marcel Reed, Jaxson Dart, Jaxson Arnold, or even Chambliss.
He does throw a good deep ball. You will see an Anthony jennings or Danny Etling offense. A lot of screens and checkdowns and deep shots. And with no running game the offense will be very tough to watch.
I like MVB but we need a new play caller to take advantage of his talents and anyone thinking inserting MVB will make Joe Sloan a better play caller is laughable at this point.

If Nuss starts against USCe then Kelly is the worst talent evaluator in the world. Everyone can see he's hurt. Play Van Buren period.

I think Nuss starts and gets a quarter or two to see if he’s got it. Hopefully this is the week he gets healthy and gets some swagger back.
If he looks bad I think we move to MVB from here out for this season.
ETA: this is not my desired outcome, this is what I THINK will happen. I'm ready to go MVB as the starter, announced yesterday.

How is this worse than the current situation?

That could be the case. If so then start looking at the rest of the clipboard holders. I don't know if MVB will be any better. He may be worse, but at least try it. At this point we should be open to try about anything to find a serviceable quarterback. If that ends up being Nuss then fine. But at least give other people a shot to see in game.
This week should be wide open for qb tryouts to reevaluate their places on the depth chart and go from there.

Shocking but it is also possibly that BK knows his QB roster better than we do and Nuss is the best we have

Would have beaten Ole Miss. You didnt need Nuss to be Lord and Savior to beat Ole Miss. You needed him to not make dumb decisions with the ball, and also not to under throw every pass over 20 yards.

LMFAO everyone always thinks the backup will make the team better.

It sometimes happens in football that the backup is not as good. Hence being a backup.
Are you familiar with this game of football?

From all camp reports mvb couldn’t complete passes against air….
Posted on 9/30/25 at 8:05 am to Datsmoneydude
Bringing up camp reports when the season is already a quarter of the way over is lazy. We saw Van Buren complete 10 of 12 pass attempts in game.

And sometimes he is better, case in point, the QB that beat us last weekend was the backup. He got playing time because the starter was injured. What a concept.

Because there is no running attack to move the ball. You will rely on hitting an occasional deep ball. In the current offense we are relying on methodically moving the ball through the intermediate passing attack.
Need a different play caller to maximize MVB's talents/strengths.

You know what else happens immediately? The defense checking out of their max coverage and sending an exotic blitz against an inexperienced QB.

Says Nick Saban, 'Hey, get Tua in here and let's win this Natty!'
I'm not on the total bandwagon, but there is some validity to give MVB some time b/c Nuss is struggling. There are other variables like play calling lack of run game, O line, etc. It's not a one-thing easy fix.
