Prayers for Meridian Tiger (Update on p.5)

His great-grand baby was born premature and can use your prayers. He sent me this email:
She had (great grandson) xxxxxx at 24 weeks, He will have been in UMC NeoNatal ICU unit for 4 weeks tomorrow. He currently has a brain bleed that won't stop and the fetal shunt from his heart to lungs has not yet closed, which causes low blood Oxygen. They continue to watch both of these problems carefully and say surgery may be required to correct them. They won't say when they will make that decision, but he has a neurosurgeon watching. The doctors and nurses are first rate, but he is a very sick little guy. He was 1 pound 8 ounces at birth, dropped to 1 pound 2 ounces and is back up to 2 pounds 1 ounce. Tiny, frail, weak. I spend most nights praying just about all night long. I think much too much when the house gets quiet. However, as the Angel Gabriel told Mary (Luke 1:37): "For with God nothing shall be impossible", so my prayers follow that assurance, but he will likely remain in the ICU unit until December or maybe January. Your prayers would be appreciated.

We are ok day to day. The good news is that Sanuel is better today! Actually better than he was yesterday, which is exactly what my prayers are asking from God - to make him better in whatever way he wants. Today, his doctor actually told our granddaughter Samuel obviously has not read any medical books, because he isn't following what the books say should be happening, but he is still improving (Hint - a 100% witness of the power of prayers lifted up by literally hundreds of faithful friends and strangers). His blood oxygen is still fine (has been for two days now), and they have lowered the oxygen content to 60% and the NO2 level to 10%. They intend to drop the NO2 by an additional 10%,probably by now. By sometime tomorrow he may be off the NO2 totally. The pre-birth path between his heart and lungs is still open, but is causing no problems and his lungs seem to be getting better, They hope to take him off the oscillator vent and back on the less stressful one sometime tomorrow. All of this says he is no longer on an hour to hour status, and now on a day to day concern. God is good and honors the prayers of those who are praying for him. Thanks to all of you who have been praying. There is no reason to quit, but every reason to remember there are several/many other very sick babies in the other 79 isolettes in the Neonatal ICU unit. We need to include them with Samuel. Thanks again. God bless you.

quote:
Friends. We have learned that our great grandson, Samuel, who you know is a patient in the Neonatal Intensive care unit at UMC Hospital in Jackson has taken a severe downward turn this morning. Evidently he has a respiratory infection that has shut down one of his lungs. The doctors at the ICU have begun giving him drugs to treat the lung infection and have returned his respirator oxygen to 100% and placed him back on nitrous oxide in an effort to increase his blood oxygen to a level that will support him.
We don't know much more than that, only that he is a very sick little guy. Your prayers are very much needed at this moment. I know so many of you have been faithful to cover him in prayer over the past few weeks and your prayers accomplish so much more than we know. Please, Please, Please take a moment and pray for him and his parents.
Father, please hear our prayers for Samuel.

Prayers for his grandbaby and their family. Nothing seems more painful than seeing a sick child go through stuff like this. It hurts the soul.

Keep the faith. My sister's baby was born about that early and spent months in the NICU. She just turned 10 not long ago.

May God bless the baby and the family, and there be a happy outcome for all.
