The Detroit Lions offense is the blueprint for what to run if you have a passing QB. They have a creative run game using a variety of formations, they are aggressive with their playcalling and creative on 4th down, and they create favorable matchups and feed their elite WRs. It works extremely well for the type of team that we have, outside of not having an NFL OL.

We need someone from that staff in BR next year, even if it’s as an analyst to help with some of the concepts.

I was watching this game thinking, man, it would be nice to control the game like this, mostly thanks to run game. I thoroughly enjoyed it

They are just really organized and creative on offense. They throw a lot of looks and concepts at a defense and just execute so well.

Helps to have a great O line, one of the best RB duos of all time and an all pro receiver and tight end. They are super talented as well as being coached well.

No, it doesn't. They have an all pro quarterback, the best RB room in the NFL, a top 5 TE, an elite OL, and a very good WR room.

Why would someone on one of the best NFL coaching staffs become a college football analyst?

NFL teams have a hard time replicating that offense. It’s one of the best ever.

They’re elite at each position group.

Quality Control guys don’t get paid a lot in the NFL. Brady was a 1 in a million find, but someone who could bring some of the basics of that scheme, especially in the run game, would be worth giving a raise.

If not that, have someone do what Slinger was initially doing with Brady and go visit them to talk about their scheme and how they apply it. College coaches do that all the time.

They also have one of the best lines in the country. Would help any offense.

You don’t have to copy the entire scheme to borrow some of the creativity of their run game. That’s something most of us here, outside of Daniels’ individual ability, have complained about this offense lacking for the last 4 years.

So no one should ever attempt a single play from their playbook unless they have an All-Pro OL. Noted.

No one is saying that. Calm down.

People are just pointing out that if it was as easy as “just copy them” a lot of teams would do it.

The Lions make a very complicated offense look very easy.

I understand that and I’m not saying we should copy the entire scheme. That was an exaggeration.

But they definitely show a lot of creative run concepts that would be a good fit with the types of backs that we currently have. Same with the way they use their backs in the pass game.

During the Clemson game, we ran some interesting plays, some really unique looks. That went away pretty quickly for whatever reason.

The 25 mins from the 3rd quarter to 5 mins left in the 4th of that game were the most creative that Sloan has ever had. And I completely agree that creativity disappeared as fast as it showed up. Other than a few jet sweeps vs Tech and the quick pitches and one I Formation play vs UF, we’ve been missing that since.

I don’t understand why we suddenly abandoned several plays that worked quite well at creating space and good matchups. I get that you can’t live off of screen plays and counters, but it’s quite another thing to act as if they’re illegal for most of next three weeks.

Joe Brady left a successful Saints team to do that for LSU and make a name for himself

very creative play design and interior line blocking. They made a strong baltimore dline look very average. That handoff pitchout for the go ahead td was a brilliant design ....don't I wish LSU had half as much creativity.

I agree with you. But the College game and NFL games are different. There is a reason why NFL scouts call Garrett a better pro prospect than College QB because his expertise at the line of scrimmage is going to be so valuable in the NFL but in College with College amateur players it doesn't have the same positive impact that it will in the NFL. Now I still have not written off our ability to run the ball as there are still coachable things that can be worked out. Now if that happens or not idk but there if there was ever a game to get some of those things cleaned up its this week against an Ole Miss defense that struggles to get lined up and struggles to stop the run.
