In the many threads relating to this topic there was a consistent recommendation for a plant that grows fairly tall. I cannot remember its name. Any ideas?

Red tip photinia is susceptible to fungal diseases, especially in wet conditions, and its young leaves are toxic to horses. Folks are using them less these days due to the fungus problems.

I like ligustrum, but it doesn't create near the privacy of viburnum. It drops leaves and becomes visually porous.

It was Viburnum! Thank you all.

I use Cleyera as a replacement.

FYI a lot of my viburnums did not do well in the freeze last year

Chinese privit(ligustrum sinense) grows the best/fastest in DFW’s harsh conditions.
Wax leaf privit or ligustrum lucidium grows bigger.
Red tips are great but they retake several years to yield privacy. I see lots of diseased ones but they aren’t dying.
Now if they’re going in front of your fence instead of behind it, maybe wax Myrtle, viburnum or cherry laurel is better, or some Hollies if you have the time. I’m too worried about fire to plant entire rows of wax myrtle though.
