I'm looking at a new (to me) F-150 and it's a 6.5 foot bed. Is that a big difference from the 5.5 foot bed?

Pros/cons?

Hell of a difference. Both cargo carrying and the looks of the truck as well.

Joe Diffie had an 8' bed so that's what I have.

My ranger has a 5 foot bed and it's been fine for moving furniture. If you want a tax deduction for your F150, the bed has to be at least 6 feet long.

6.5' bed
The shorter bed was a deal killer for me when I was looking for a newer truck recently. I need the full haul space a LOT more than I need a cavernous back seat and the two were mutually exclusive for my Tundra.

All these fairies buying "trucks" as luxury vehicles are driving ridiculous stuff like 5.5 foot beds on trucks.

They should all be 8' long. Short bed trucks are stupid.

I have a Ram with the 5'7" bed. I regularly wish I had the 6'4" bed. You'd be surprised how many times we throw something in there and find out it's a couple inches too long.

The only benefit of the shorter bed is marginally fitting better in parking lots.

Get you a full size bed in a F250/2500. After going heavy duty with the classic 6.5 foot bed, I can't imagine going back.

Most 1500 series crew cab trucks have 5.5’ beds, standard size is 6.5’. Most 1500’s sold have 5.5’ beds, and have a more consistent value when trading/selling. If you need the longer bed, by all means get it, but when buying for “resale”(sooner or later, we all will need to replace) you would do better getting the shorter bed. Just my $.10…

I would absolutely go with the Sox foot bed. You can for way more in there - plus haul a 4 wheeler with the tailgate closed which can’t be done on the 5.5 bed.

Plus if need be you can truck camp in a six foot bed not so much on a 5.5.

Step in the correct direction but wait till you see the real light and get a crew cab long bed truck.

That's a damned good question, I have no idea what mine is.

Never thought about it

Go with 5.5’ and use a trailer when you need to. 5.5’ is better for daily driving and resale.

If you need a 6.5’ every day then you probably needed a 250/2500 anyway

I haul a trailer more than stuff in the bed, so I like the 5.5 bed.

The wife says mine is big enough, so that’s all that matters. Just don’t like it when she calls my truck bed “cute”.

I’ve never measured mine or looked at the specs, but I’ll assume 6.5 ft because I have to lay my 7 ft rods & reels diagonal for them to fit and close the tailgate.
