First - hope he rests up and gets back on the field soon. Second - I've always questioned why we are using him as a TE and not a WR. Besides risking his knee getting rolled up on - he's not very good at pass blocking. Also missed several chip blocks at the los that allowed defenders to get momentum and get into the backfield. But dude has shown he can ball and will probably out jump any corner that's covering him. Why not just use him as a WR and put him in 1:1 situations on the edges?

I’d personally like to stick with Sharp more often than not at TE.

So if that means Green more at WR to spread the field out and have some larger downfield targets let’s go.

he plays wr like half the time. if you use him as a tight end you can match him up on guys playing safety or linebacker. you can motion him to detach him from the line and that brings a guy out of the box thats normally run support. Just a lot of ways to use him as a hybrid

Thank you for expressing some actual football knowledge concerning matchups and coverage.. If the back stays in or delays long enough, he will nearly always get a match on a LB, who will seldom be as agile or as fast. Advantage: #14

the ultimate advantage is having someone thats too fast for a saftey or linebacker and too physical for a corner.

not to mention hes going to block on the perimeter better than any wr we have if you want to run an end around or outside run

Matchups are why you play him there.

Green puts stress on a DC. If he treats Green like a WR playing on the line at TE in 11 or 12 personnel, then he’s either moving a CB around from another matchup, leaving better matchups for the other WRs, or better yet, he takes an LB off the field. Then, even though Green is just an ok blocker at this point, he’s now facing down a Safety or CB instead of blocking an LB on a run play.

And as mentioned above, if you play Green straight up, you either have an LB or Safety on him where he’s lining up. Unless you have a Harold Perkins on your roster, this is a tall task.

I credit the Tech defender who hid his work a little and got away with the PI on Green in the end zone Saturday. That’s pretty much the only defense on him there if the ball is thrown well. Nuss could have done a bit better with that one, though.

Still needs to work on his hands, high pointing the ball and boxing out the defender. He's had a bunch of RZ targets and it gets broke up by a 5’11-6’1 type of guy. He has potential but has underperformed

He can out jump but can he run a route, out jump and catch the Dam Ball!! That’s what he struggles with getting open and catching the Ball!

Exactly. When you have a weapon like Green you don't want to limit him by putting him outside. Move him around and create mismatches. Force a defense to account for him with a LB or a Safety. If you put him outside then he's going up against Corners who have a better chance of sticking to him.

When it comes to WR/TE hybrids blocking, I'm not worried about it. They aren't in the game to serve pancakes. They're out there to be game changers in the passing game. If you need a blocking TE then put one in.

Yeah I thought that was an odd thing to call out. Like.. our pass-catching TE isn’t a great pass blocker? Oh no!

If we are running max protect with Green’s hand in the dirt, we’ve jumped the shark. Run blocking is important. Pass blocking.. not so much.

1. How often do you think our pass catching TE is pass blocking?
- Hint - he's been asked to pass block twice so far this season

2. Green has a higher run block grade than our entire OL this season sans Braelin Moore
