Did Baton Rouge ever have any quality, local country bands?

Save me the Parish County Line gimmick.

Have we ever had real country bands? Seems like everyone here has been cover bands.

Hans van Brackle, guitar player for the US Times, had a country band after the Times broke up but I can't remember the band name. I saw them a couple of times and they were decent.

They're more Americana, but I always like The Humble Kind.

Nervous Pervis and the Jitters.

Ursell Purviss - gtr, vox
Bruce Lamb - gtr, vox
David Carrol - bass
Joeboy Messina - drums

They played at Phil Brady's many times in the late '80's/early '90's. You weren't getting any Garth from those guys.

No, Baton Rouge prefers rhythm with their blues.

Hans was in that with his wife and I don't remember them being Country but I didn't listen to them much. I think I still have their vinyl around here so maybe I'll give it a listen and see.
