What is the actual deal with Kirk's Dog?

In all seriousness, does anyone know what the deal is? Has Kirk ever actually disclosed it?

We're only a couple days into the season, but we've already had to see the dog on Gameday, on the LSU/Clemson broadcast and now on the UNC/TCU broadcast. I love dogs, but do we really need to see Kirk's dog every single broadcast?

I bring this up, as Kirk has been on ESPN for awhile. But I feel like it was either just before Covid or during the Covid period when Kirk had his first dog who passed away. That I understood. But now for the last couple of years Kirk has this second dog and we see him like every broadcast now.

Is it some sort of medical condition? Anxiety? I feel like it's gone overboard and just become weird.

Does Kirk just have so much influence at ESPN that one day he just said "I'm going to start bringing my dog and you aren't going to say a thing, so deal with it" type situation?

+1 he's espn royalty so I'm sure they don't care, but I do wonder if it's anxiety or something else he deals with.

It’s pretty ridiculous frankly. I’m sure because of his stature no one pushes back but sorry dogs do not belong everywhere especially at work

That pup was the best 00:00:45 of tonight’s entire broadcast. Game included.

With all due respect that's not true and I'm tired of that mentality. I'll admit myself, I love dogs but I'm highly allergic to them. The wrong dog could cause my asthma to absolutely go haywire. That dog could absolutely hurt me and others who have allergies to dogs.

So that is absolutely not true. How does Kirk not know his dog might not cause an allergic reaction to someone in the hallway or someone on the production crew? It's why I hate that dogs now are just everywhere, including restaurants and airplanes. Putting the dogs above other humans.

I hate how people forget or just flat out ignore that a lot of us are allergic to dogs. And just from a professionalism aspect, unless it's a service dog, it has no businesses at the workplace.

Again though, I'm mostly just curious. And I'm really surprised Kirk himself has never addressed it.

When his dog started turning around on him, I thought of this SNL sketch. Weird stuff to me. It's a dog. Get a grip, Kirk.

People like the dogs. The students love it and non football fans tune in to see them.

Which makes ESPN happy.

The official cover is it's an emotional support dog but the real reason is the dogs are popular.

That is what I expected. That basically it provides no official service function and Kirk just wants to bring his dog everywhere. So he says "emotional support" so that it passes any legal issues.

The "non-football fans" thing would be funny. I seriously doubt any non-football fans are tuning in to see a dog. There are plenty of dogs everywhere.

I don't have a problem with the dog, I just don't think the dog needs to make an appearance every single telecast.

Ben died last November because Kirk was a mess during Gameday at LSU.

I thought it was pretty funny…

It was a blowout at that point, so who cares?

Now, if they did it with TCU driving to try to win the game…that’s another story.

The dog is an emotional support dog to help him cope with cheating on his wife and almost ruining his marriage and Ohio State fans said mean things to him.

I am sure they got super positive feedback showing the dog and since dogs are exalted as human equals in this day and age they embrace it. I am very much in the dogs are animals and belong in animal’s quarters camp; not in every restaurant, hardware store or wherever the owner can think of.

Yeah I can't imagine dog lovers would be taking hours out of each Saturday just to support his dog. I have to imagine that was one time only for that specific game.

he got a handwritten note from his doctor on official stationary so it is legit

the dog plays, the dog stays

the dog taking a big shite on the turf at the gameday kicking challenge was epic, homeboy stepping in it while celebrating was GOLD

This is my opinion as well. It's gotten out of control. I love dogs, but any dog outside of a service dog has no place in a restaurant, retail store or airplane. I also think it's ridiculous most hotels allow them now as well. Allow them, that's fine, but it should only be specific rooms that are guaranteed to be deep cleaned after.

Like you said, we've exalted dogs to be as equal as humans now. I love dogs, but they are not equal to humans.

That's what I hate about Kirk and what he's doing with that dog. He's doing nothing but encouraging others to take their dogs everywhere they go. Screw the people who could be hurt by those dogs, in various ways.

If the dog is an actual service dog, I get it. If it's just for "emotional support", I disagree with it. I know it's not popular, but that's my opinion.
