Had a friend go to boil some shrimp tonight and had 8 gallons in the pot and at some point before the water came to a boil the aluminum melted and formed a giant hole in the bottom. Has anyone heard of this? I use the same regulator/conventional pot and have never had that issue.

That looks like a Stalecracker special to me. I always thought they were junk.

Did he perhaps have the burner rolling with the pot empty for a while?

Never heard of it happening with any pot unless heating it before having water in the pot.

The only time I’ve ever seen that is when there wasn’t enough water in the pot.

Was he using oxy-acetylene instead of propane?

He put something in the pot that formed a layer at the bottom and kept the water off the bottom? If water was in contact with the inside of the bottom, it should not have been able to raise the temperature beyond the melting point. Similar to putting a paper cup filled with water into a campfire. The paper can’t burn as long as there is water next to it absorbing the heat

It really doesn't look like an OG pot. It looks to have alot of shoddy welding.

He just doesn't want to admit the obvious.

True story. Under controlled conditions I have seen water in a small bowl made out of a brown paper bag boiled over a bunsen burner. It was during boiler operation training to emphasize the importance of heat transfer threw the boiler tubes. Soon a the water boiled off of course the paper bowl burned.

I would say your bud got to BSing, drinking, smoking, etc. and let the all the water boil out of the pot.

I think the rocket pots had all the small pegs on the bottom not the channels. Same company or people somehow involved in both companies.

They do sell them that are just the pot not welded onto a stand like that, what kind of burner? That looks like it didn’t have water in it, mine runs fine and boils in about 6-7min.
