Almost unfathomable to me that the program hasn't won a season opener in half a decade.

Losing openers is particularly disheartening because it shatters hopes within the first three hours of the season and casts a pall over the entire remainder of the schedule. The perennial disappointment has grown tiresome.

Really hope we are focused and energized at Clemson, execute with discipline and break the streak. It would be wonderful to start the campaign on a positive note and allow the excitement around the program to build.

Geaux Tigers.

Only if you lose to a shitty team and/or don’t know how to view cfb in the 12(about to be 16) team playoff era

Yeah...that's like a quarter of 2 decades...what's going on with the tigers.

Well, it's unfathomable to me given that it's tied for the worst streak in program history (with the dregs of the early 1990s). And if LSU loses to Clemson, it will be the first time in 130 years of tiger football that has happened.

Time to win an opener.

We used to mostly schedule rent a wins for the opener and everybody used to bitch about that. They wanted fun games. Now everybody cries because we schedule marquee games and lose some. No pleasing this fan base.

I agree. We went from a program who didn’t lose non conference regular season games, to a team who can’t win season openers.

Ed O agreed to a voodoo curse for us to win in 2019 and we are paying for it with a decade of mediocrity. We will bounce back but it’s gonna be a few more years. Keep watching the reruns of Joe Burrow.

We’ve lost to:
20: Unranked Mississippi State
21: Unranked UCLA
22: Unranked Florida State
23: 8th ranked Florida State
24: 23rd ranked USC

One opening game out of 5 against a Top Ten team. One.

Some coaches have the ability to make their players perform with a sense of urgency from the first game

Some do not.

2020 - COVID Year. I'll let it slide for that reason only.
2021 - Away game opener in an OOC 'marquee' primetime game against Power 5 opponent.
2022 - Neutral site (basically home) OOC 'marquee' primetime game against Power 5 team, first year head coach.
2023 - Neutral site (basically away) OOC marquee game against Power 5 team, lost to a team that was undefeated and conference champs, but was screwed out of the playoffs.
2024 - Neutral site (basically away) OOC marquee primetime game against Power 5 team.
2025- Away game opener in yet another OOC marquee primetime game against Power 4 team.

Meanwhile, we have Georgia playing Marshall at home, Oklahoma playing Illinois State at home, Florida playing Long Island at home, Ole Miss playing Georgia State at home, and Mizzou playing Central Arkansas at home.

And yeah, I know Alabama is playing Florida State and Texas is playing Ohio State... THIS YEAR. The last 3 years, Bama opened (at home) with Western Kentucky, Utah State and Middle Tennesee State.

Face it, as Burt Reynolds said in The Longest Yard, it's a better idea to have a HOME tune-up game to start the season instead of these moneymaking marquee match ups for TV. It's not like LSU is getting all that TV money anyway for playing in those games; it's shared equally with all the SEC teams.
