Jimbo isn’t a QB guru like people think he was.

He got lucky with Jameis. His handling of A&M QB’s was historically bad.

He made Jamarcus’ lazy arse into a first round pick

earlier in his career, yeah.
Jameis Winston was either his 3rd or 4th QB to get drafted in the first round.
hasn't had any since so that guru moniker faded.

None of his nfl drafted QBs have amounted to anything.
Manuel nothing
Jamarcus nothing
Ponder nothing.
Flynn career backup
Winston was a bust for where he was drafted.
Mond? Nothing
Mauck? Career back up and left to become a dentist
Booty? Bust.
Rohan? Was a career back for a handful of years.
Really he was a decent QB coach in college, but nothing to develop a QB to succeed in the pros.
Tedford was similar outside of Rodgers.

Zach Calzada still being a college quarterback is legitimately hilarious. This has to be his 15th year. He graduated high school the year after Trevor Lawrence graduated high school.

Jamarcus was 6'6 and could throw the ball 100 yards. A lot to work with there.
He did a good job with Mauck and Flynn.

A bust probably isn’t the best way to describe crab legs.
He lead the nfl in passing yards in 2019.
He’s been in the league for a decade with a pro bowl.

Is that his fault? He got them into a position to be drafted. It’s not his responsibility to further their career. If you want to blame anyone, blame the scouts that are supposed to do their due diligence on the player.

He was good at offense. Who said he was a QB guru?

his job was to develop college QBs, not QBs that have long NFL careers.
and he got 4 of them to a level good enough to be picked in the first round.
hence the "guru" moniker early in his career.
nothing really since then, so he hasn't been referred to as such in quite a few years now.

Love watching games from 2005 and 2006 where LSU would WR screen teams to death

literally everything about Jimbo fell off once he sold his soul to have a rapist win him a NC.
Butcher coached like 4 1st round QBs between 2005 and 2014.
They all sucked in the pros.

EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder were first round picks.

That's what A&M thought they were getting. That mantra stuck a lot longer than it should've.

He was a good pro style QB coach, that offense just fell out of favor through out college football

The game passed him by. Jimbo was a pretty decent play collar, but his offense was fairly simplistic. He had a one read, passing game with no more than two routes in a combination. Once he got his quarterback to understand how to make that one read, understand the route, combination, and no exactly where his safety valve would be he became a “Q B guru”. Once the younger defensive coaching talent elevated to coordinate status, they quickly surpassed Jimbo in terms of sophistication. They took away the one Reed/route combination and essentially played run defense the rest of the time. Jimbo never really adapted to this. He overcame it with talent a few times, but did not adapt.

I did.
That was kinda his calling card at LSU and FSU, a bunch of all conference/ all-freshman/ high draft pick types. He pretty much didn't miss with his starters for about 10 years (though until Jameis most didn't really shine until like their 2nd year of starting).
Ro
Mauck
Jamarcus
Flynn
Manuel
Jameis
Francois
When Francois went down with his knee injury, it seemed like FSU and Jimbo's QB magic died.
