Need advice on fake flowers

We moved into our house about a year ago and haven't really done much to the overall look. The main issue is that we're in a heavily wooded area so grass can't/doesn't really grow, not just because of shade but mainly because pine trees drop straw constantly, and A LOT of it.
In the front of the fencing there are 2 long planter boxes that to my knowledge haven't actually had anything in them for years. Currently they are just filled to the brim wtih pine straw. I'd like to add some color in these just for a nice little visual pop, but my wife and I know absolutely nothing about plants or landscape foliage. I'm sure I could do a little research but 1) we probably don't want to go to the trouble of the upkeep it would require, and 2) again, pine straw is going to fall in this area heavily and frequently.
So that brings me back to the question in the title. It sounds silly asking for advice on fake plants, a novice like myself would think "it's fake, what's there to think about?" but you don't know what you don't know. I have no idea if there are some fake plant materials that are better than others, or if I need to patronize some particular big box store over another. There's probably a dozen other things I don't know about this which is why I'd like to get opinions from the experts.
Some pictures are below for reference. After we get some nice color in there I'm considering painting the fence white to just "clean up" the look in general. Currently it's just so drab, although being in a woody type of place it kind of blends in so not totally married to the painting yet.

You could put something nice in those boxes like Ajuga or Lamium and have real, natural color that’s maintenance free.
You sure that fence is viable enough to paint?

I will look into those, thank you! Will it be an issue if pine straw falls onto them regularly? And I assume they'll need regular watering? One of the appeals of fake was the avoidance of having to do routine maintenance, btu I will certainly check these out.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by viable. It's definitely old and not in great shape

If the pine needles will be dropping really thick all the time, even fake flowers or plants won't look real good unless you continually remove the pine needles from the planter or the ground bed established for them.
I used to have 13 really mature and tall pine trees in my yard. It took nearly an hour each week just to pick up the pine cones and branches so I could mow the grass. Then mowing the grass entailed cutting and mulching the fallen pine needles under the trees over multiple passes of the lawn mower just to get rid of the accumulation each week.
I eventually gave up and had all the pine trees cut down and replaced them with crepe myrtles. Best money I ever spent on my yard!

get rid of those boxes and plant hydrangeas and azaleas.

I would plant some lariope and call it a day. It won’t bloom much in shade, but the blades will brighten the area up.

Lily turf, hostas, caladiums, hydrangeas, wandering Jew, ferns, etc all would do well there.

Run power to them and install fake Christmas trees.
Just kidding, but I wouldn’t recommend installing fake flowers.
Put in a low maintenance colorful shrub or ground cover like others have recommended.

thanks for the suggetions. After looking at all of those I love the look of hydrangeas. they appear to be fairly large..do you think something like that would go in these long but skinny planter boxes? Also what is their maintenance level needed?

By the time hydrangeas get big, those boxes will crumble away anyway.

deer will eat hydrangeas so if you have them, maybe not a great choice. we have had excellent success in shade (my front yard looks like yours) with the others i mentioned. hostas in particular are easy, come in many varieties and look great. caladiums with give you foliage color. ferns give you contrast. also there are several varieties of gingers that prefer shade.
tons of choices
go here to research your area

I'd stay away from fake flowers. They are kinda trashy
