He broke his leg in the opener last year, so the NCAA granted him a medical redshirt

The crazy part is that Belichick was building through the portal but couldn't find someone to make sure Max Johnson stays on the bench.

I hope John Emery Jr rips off a 2,000 yard season. I know that he screwed up early in his career w/ school, but dude stuck it out for years. Just horribly bad luck w/ injuries after he got his shite in order.

Emery has handled everything he’s been through with a lot of grace. Hope he has a great year.

Max Johnson....wow

and if he's granted a medical RS for last year, he still has 2 years of eligibility left

2020: COVID, didn't count
2021: True Freshman
2022: only played in 4 games, redshirt year
2023: RS Sophomore
2024: hurt in game one (maybe medical redshirt)
2025: RS Junior
2026: RS Senior

Dude probably won't even start this year. Word is he wants to go into coaching. If I were him, I'd be trying to land a GA spot somewhere with my connections instead of holding a clipboard.

Gio Lopez is their likely starting QB

Same guy we faced last year when we played South Alabama

Gio Lopez is projected to start. He was the South Alabama QB we played last year.

Crazier that Emery still has eligibility.

He literally was on the 2019 title team.

I'm still not sure we know exactly what happened there. He took an online course that did not qualify, from what I recall. I would think LSU has folks reviewing those things, but who knows.

Miami had a player last year, Cam McCormick, who signed with Oregon in 2016. Yes, it was his NINTH year of college football. He was granted 4 or 5 medical redshirts

Yep, remember that.

Dude played college football for parts of three different presidential admins.

Unrelated but still a wild stat when it comes to guys spending a long time in college. Myles Brennan was teammates with all of these QBs:

Danny Etling
Joe Burrow
Max Johnson
TJ Finley
Garrett Nussmeier
Jayden Daniels (MB "retired" during fall camp '22).

Absolutely crazy that he was part of the program from pre-Burrow all the way til Jayden showed up on campus.
