AP Preseason All American Team

Whit Weeks 1st team LB
Nussmeier 2nd team QB
Perkins 2nd team LB

Klubnik is the 1st team QB. Pretty juicy matchup to have the (projected) top QBs in the nation going head to head right out of the gate. There will probably be a few NFL scouts in attendance that night

Also, Perkins's inclusion on the 2nd team shows the laziness of the AP. Look, I hope he returns to the 2022 version of himself, but he hasn't done anything AA worthy over the last two seasons (one of which he missed 2/3rds of). Hell, you could argue he's not even a LB anymore. He's more of a renamed Strong Safety.

In the SEC he was:

17th in total tackles
T-13th in solo tackles
T-13th in TFL

The good was 3 forced fumbles.

Decent stats. But by no means AA stats. Everyone wanted to argue that his 2023 stats were similar to his 2022 stats...and that was true. But they failed to take into account that he played 200+ more snaps in 2023 than 2022.

I don't think anyone is sleeping on him but you aren't going to go give a first year starter that will be splitting reps with Bauer Sharp any preseason honors, even at the conference level.

Harold Perkins is light years better than Whit weeks. Stop with the slander.
When Weeks dominates and wins a game for the Tigers then maybe he be compared to Harold. Arkansas OleMiss Alabama Perkins freshman year wear some of the best defensive football this side of the honey badger. Stop with the slander.

That was a great game by Weeks. With that said, Perkins as a true freshmen won the Ole Miss & Arkansas game back in 2022.

That isn't "slander" of Perkins. It's just that I don't think you'd find many people who would say his last two seasons were All American worthy seasons to justify a preseason AA team selection this year. Which means his selection to this year's preseason AA team is based upon the hype from his production from two years ago. To contrast, Weeks is a returning starter who was a postseason 1st team All SEC selection last year.

If Perkins played for ANY other team you say his selection to this year's preseason AA team was a bit unwarranted.

Looking for him to return to that Honey Badger type guy who can change the game with 1 rush or a drop back and INT.

Perkins freshman year
He capitalized on the D-line flushing the QB and he ran them down. After his freshman year he didn't have a D-line that could bring that type of pressure. He can possibly have an amazing 2025 season according to reports as how good this defense can be. Idk but if LSU's defense opens the game with a Clemson 3-n-out.... we going to the ship.

You make a good point. My beef isn’t with you or Whit. I feel like Harold is being underrated given how special he was at the start.

We know he's a bad motherfricker but I guess I didn't realize Whit was viewed on that level nationally.

Love to see it.

qb comp yards TD Int Rush Avg. Rush Tds
A 64.6 3139 29 7 4.64 15
B 63.4 3639 36 6 3.89 7
C 64.2 4052 29 12 -1.81 3
QB-B is Clubnik with 2 more games than QB-A.

Im pretty sure Oklahoma is gonna be good with Mateer (QB-A).

Nuss could certainly become the best (or second best) QB but his stats are objectively the least impressive (Definitely a fantastic foundation to build on though and I think his senior season will be lit).

Getting excited about our DL with healthy and experienced Whit & Perkins running loose.

Also no Sage Ryan & Major Burns makes this defense instantly better

What do you think Nussmeier's stats would have looked like if he played the likes of:

Portland St.
Texas Tech
San Jose St.
Fresno St.
Hawaii
Utah St
New Mexico
Oregon St.
Wyoming

instead of an SEC schedule?

Mateer may be good. But I'll go with the guy who actually put up good numbers against MUCH tougher competition than a guy who basically played in the WAC last season.
