I guess he still gets excited since he gets bonus $$$. I was more excited to see his sister Johanna there in Brussels competing in the women's pole vault although she finished last. And yes, she is representing Sweden too.

It’s incredible that a kid who’s built like every stringy coonass baw working at a refinery south of Lafayette is the GOAT at a demanding sport like pole vaulting

He really looks more like a distance runner.

Agree. His dad was more “peterbuilt” like a pole-vaulter, at least when I saw him around the UL track stadium two and a half decades ago.

His parents both were highly involved and he grew up with a pole vault in his back yard. He’s obviously the best ever, but he had an opportunity that less than 99.99999% of the world did.
I mean who the frick do you know that has ever pole faulted once in their life, especially under the age of 14 when they entered HS? Literally no one I know

I get what you are saying but I grew up with friends who vaulted. This was in Beaumont a hundred years ago and none of them had money or a background in vaulting. They started in 7th grade and one of them went 17'-6" in high school. I tried to get him to come to LSU but Aggies were in his blood.
