He speaks about the scene in PTA at the bus station at the end of the movie. He gets very emotional about it. Said there is a long dialogue that Candy gave in that scene that got cut. That scene tears me up every time I watch that movie. I would love to see that full scene. The spurts of the dialogue that he read in this video... wow, that seemed like a much more brutally emotional dialogue.
Anyone ever heard about this?

I found this video of a guy reading the full scene from an original script if anyone is interested.

If you haven’t watched the two part Steve Martin documentary from last year, you’re missing this and so much more.

I didn't know any of this, thank you for sharing, it's a shame they cut that scene, it would have elevated what is already a great classic movie.

The scene as is hits hard enough. The parts left unsaid don’t really need to be said, but I bet it’s all that more powerful.

First I am hearing of this unfortunately. Steve Martin is probably my favorite comedic actor (Peter Sellers and Bill Murray are up there as well); I need to see this ASAP.

Candy would have easily and very successfully transitioned to dramatic roles had he not died. Zero doubt in my mind. Fantastic actor
Also Hughes said he wrote the script in 3 days and the first 60 pages in 6 hours as he was using a nightmare travel story as inspiration from when he worked in the advertising industry

They changed the ending in the editing room. Originally Neil didn't just deliver the monologue, he actually follows Del to the next train station. Apparently this ending didn't test well so they added the shots of Steve Martin reminiscing about his time with Neil (these originally weren't meant to be included in the film, they were just reactions Martin was having in-between takes) and reversed the shot of the train pulling out of the station so that it looked like Del went back for Neil instead of being followed and basically guilted into letting Neil come home with him. It makes the ending more wholesome and like they'd built a genuine friendship.
