Ever wonder why they fail to regulate deer farms with cwd, or fail to fine clubs/owners that bought farm raised deer to release onto their lands along the MS river. Now those deer have spread cwd into MS and as far westward in La to caldwell parish.

But god forbid if Dept of Ag catches you putting out sweet potatoes for deer.

Frick em. Every hunter in a cwd zone should place sweet potatoes out everywhere this deer season.

Don’t hold back baw!

It sucks, but what are you gonna do? With what I save on corn this year, I can afford internet at the stand!

Ikr. Dept Ag needs to get out of regulating the deer farming. Turn it over to LDWF.

Im buying sweet taters this season to feed all the coons, possums, and other critters on my lease.

Ms should sue Mike Strain for letting cwd cross the river into Ms.

I'm a bit confused. Seeing that the MS river if east of Caldwell Parish, shouldn't cwd would spreading westward. Seems to me these issues should be addressed by the LDWF and not the Dept. of Agriculture as well.

Just trying to make sure I understand what you are saying.

Its not weird when you realize the continuing expansion of cwd zones in La and Ms are the result of the failure of the La Ag department's failed enforcement over deer farming. Where are the records of tested animals, those bought and sold, shipping records, etc.

Any land owners or clubs facing fines and restitution? Any deer farms with cwd closed and had those animals put down? It's time for Mike Strain to face the hunters and answer questions regarding cwd. The problem is his making. The LDWF is tasked to mananage the mess Strain let loose. Sportsmen need to start calling him Fauci.

Meant westward to caldwell parish.

The LDWF expanded the cwd zone westward to caldwell parish. Cwd originated in Tensas parish. Winter Quarters. It has spread east to into Ms and westard to franklin parish thus far.

Yet Mike Strain hasn't said a word or spoken publicly regarding his departments failures.

Strain was a NO SHOW at the CWD meeting in Grayson, La.

so organize a group to go to Strain's office and demand answers. Contact some media outlets to see if you can get their help. Start an online petition to get some numbers to back you then take your complaints and signatures to the legislature.
Ranting about it here might get you some e-fist bumps, but if you really want to hold Strain accountable, you need to do more. Good luck.

This notion of a collective such as Winter Quarters purchasing deer and releasing them on their property is asinine.

WQ’s isn’t an island. It sits between the levee and the river

So my question is….why would someone pay money for deer that the moment they turn them loose they could walk right off the property, over the levee and be hit by a truck?

Not sure how you can call something that can’t be stopped, a failure.

That’s actually for the best. He’s not a biologist.

Baw in Morehouse trucked a Big buck from Wisconsin in years ago and cut his horns off. Let him loose and someone kilt him on doe day

Hello Mike. You regulate every deer farm in this state. How many cwd positive deer on these farms have you put down?

The Dept of Ag does a terrible job managing anything. They are as efficient as the DMV

Since CWD was first detected in Louisiana in 2022, there have been 40 deer detected with the disease. Majority of the CWD-detected deer have been found around Winter Quarters in Tensas Parish.

Funny thing is not that many were next door in Madison parish. WQ brought that disease in. May not have been intentional but it happened. Where did those cwd infected deer come from? Which deer farm? Whose deer farm?

Hello Mike…

You see, when you don’t do your research you make stupid comments like this. Of course, I guess it’s possible that Mike Strain has been on TD’s since 2006.

Perhaps you should at the very least check out my post history before thinking I’m the Secretary of Ag

Again, why purchase deer to turn loose on a piece of ground that doesn’t have a high fence and isn’t on an island. The deer will literally walk off the tract within hours.

I know many folks believe that because the members have a little money, they would do something stupid like that, but trust me when I tell you those SOB’s squeak when they walk.

One of my best friends was the biologist/land manager there for years. No one purchased pen raised deer and turned them loose on WQ’s. Instead, the CWD found there was the result of the membership failing to do what my friend told them to do. Stop baiting and start killing every doe they see.

They refused to do it. The deer density simply rose to an unacceptable level….which is the same reason you see CWD in deer pens. Too many deer, stacked on top of one another.

By the way, my friend quit WQ’s not long ago and took another job where hopefully the owners will listen to what he says.

As for CWD….you know where they find it? Anywhere they test at length for it. If you run enough brain tissue under a microscope, you’ll find it, regardless of where the deer was killed.

Mike Strain is a long time vet. He’s an animal doctor. He’s got a background in biology.
