My boy goes over there to swim in their really nice pool and hang out in the woods on their really nice property, and we get along well with the parents. But now they have a pit bull.

OT Lounge,

How do I handle this situation?

Ask if they’re converting to the religion of peace now that they’re all in with the breed of peace?

It’s not if, it’s when.

I would never let my son go to their house again, not worth the risk.

If it's not your boy getting mauled by their dog, it's theirs or another kid.

The pool and friend are the bait and the pit bull is the hook.
Choose wisely.

I think you misspelled "My 10yo's former best friend."

If you have to ask you know the answer.

Start to distance yourself. It sucks man. It’s not worth the risk to have your kid maimed or killed.

You guys are soft.

Been around multiple pits,German shepherds, labs. And nothing bad happened nor were the dogs aggressive.

You guys are being Karens.

Tell your son to bite the dog to show it who’s boss.

My 9 year old has a very good friend and they have a mixed pitbull. He went over once and when I found out he’s never gone back. Talked to his mother and said her son is welcome anytime to our house but I wasn’t taking the chance. Told her she could blame it on my ignorance but I’m not taking any chance with the mix breed of peace. We all still get along fine.

If I know the person well enough to trust that they’d do whatever it takes to protect my kid, I’m good with it. But if it’s more of a casual relationship—like, I don’t even know if you’ve got siblings—then absolutely not. No chance.

My family raised pit bulls my whole life. My younger cousin was around them constantly. When his son was born, they did everything right: brought home a blanket with the baby’s scent, used the pacifier trick, introduced the dog slowly. Still, two days after they brought the baby home, one of the female pits completely snapped.

His wife was changing the baby on the table when the dog started growling and lunging at them. She turned to tell the dog to back off—and the dog launched. Knocked her down and tore into her face. Ripped off most of her right ear.

My cousin heard the screaming, ran upstairs, pulled the dog off her, and didn’t hesitate. Took the dog out back, shot her, and buried her. No second chance granted.

TL;DR - frick a pit bull.

Yeah, but you're being mean to your kid.

That can happen with a monkey too. Hell why are you even taking your kid to the zoo???

This is the correct answer. The kid can come to your house but yours cannot go there.

Much like children, dog's are a product of their environment.
Don't look at the dog. Look the dog's owners.
