Monday afternoon in the pouring rain, crews finally removed the barricades and reconnected the community of Bourg separated by the reconstruction of the Company Canal Bridge after 4 long years of construction more than a year behind schedule.

But there is one shortfall, users of the bridge will have to stop at the intersection of 24 and 316 at the foot of the new bridge.

I watched a Facebook video of a guy blowing right through the intersection without noticing the new badly placed stop sign.

They have since placed a second stop sign near the road to make it more visible.

The big question is why DOTD did not install traffic lights prior to the completion of the bridge. It is not like they didn’t have over an extra year to construct the thing.

Don’t get me wrong I am grateful it is open as it will make my drive to work easier.

LADOTD is useless. And extremely bloated.

This is the same state that built a brand new airport and no way to get to it. Not surprising

I think I’m gonna drive out of my way today just to use the bridge.

He's assuming the state is responsible for the light and not the city or parish.

These are likely the same people that thought Landy and Teedy were responsible for floodwalls and levees.

They probably think state workers are who actually builds these things too

All of my professional dealings with DOTD were a disaster, so this tracks.

Holy hyperbole Batman. There was no flyover to get to the new terminal when it was originally built, but of course there were roads in place to access it when it was opened. How do you think people got there while the flyover was being built?

And unfortunately, this is how these projects get built everywhere. Blame it on how funds get allocated. Of course it would be nice to build all the new stuff at once, but that's not reality in a world that doesn't have infinite money.

This is a 100' bridge. What really makes the 4 year thing suck is going on Youtube and watching the Chinese videos of them building a 100' bridge overnight, or in 2 days.

I wonder how long it took to build the bridge that this one replaced?

Is this the bridge it replaced? I am guessing it didn't have a traffic light?
