Lord of the Rings was such a great trilogy

Rewatched this series over the weekend and it was refreshing to see movies that had just the right amount of CGI and no forced diversity. Sucks we don't get movies that feel adventurous anymore.

Peter Jackson did a great job staying truthful to the original works. Now go read the books.

I agree. Discovering the Lord of the Rings world the first time was special.
If anyone can recommend movies like that it would be fun to experience something similar.
I guess Avatar/Pandora could be considered that type of movie, but it dind't grab me like LOTR

The Ride of the Rohirrim scene just might be my favorite movie scene ever.
It’s absolutely perfect and gives me the chills every time.
Seeing thst trilogy in theaters was simply an experience.

I went to the midnight showing of each release. The first one we were one of maybe 2 dozen people in the single screen is was showing at midnight. The 2nd one has two full theaters of people for the midnight showing. The 3rd one had 5 or 6 full theaters at the midnight showing.

I was going to the movies on a date with a chick to watch "Not Another Teen Movie"
The chick;s mom found out there were tits in it and didn't let us watch it, had to watch The Lord of the Rings instead.
I loved it, the chick hated it

I lot of the larger fight scenes that had CGI had an early AI to allow the animated armies to “decide” what they will do at an individual level.
They had to override it for the Ride of the Rohirrim scene as Rohan kept running away from the massive Mordor army.

The trilogy's only flaw was the scrubbing bubbles ghost army.

It's the best trilogy of all-time IMO.
Also, I watched the first two Hobbit movies this weekend, and I think I may have hated on those a little too much. There is way too much "cartoonish-level ridiculousness" in them, but they are still very good. Haven't rewatched the third one yet.

My only issue with the hobbit movies is they stretched an already thin plot across 3 movies. Narratively speaking, there is no reason it should have been more than 2, and that’s even including all of the “off scene” elements that weren’t directly covered in the book.
I can forgive the cartoony elements as the basis was a children’s book more than I can forgive the identity crisis of it can’t deciding if it wants that or a tone in line with LOTR.

I agree with that too; definitely should've been two movies instead of three.
But the overly cartoonish shite takes me completely out of it. Like the dwarves tossing around the dishes early on, or them in the mountain with the goblin king where they are on that platform and fall all the way to the bottom of the mountain, completely unharmed. Or when Azog is chasing them in the trees and they all fall like dominoes. For a movie based even in the LotR world, it's just overly silly and farfetched.
I can't even find gifs for all the stuff I'm talking about. But just shite like this:

I hope these films never get remade but man i would have loved to have had some Glorfindel in there. Just a little fan service somewhere in the extended cut or something.
And a better Faramir. Faramir is probably the only character that wasn't done justice.

It still holds up quite well.
I catch all three every year during the Holiday season.

My family watches the extended versions every year between Christmas and new years. It’s become one of my favorite traditions.

All 3 films (as 1 movie) = best film ever.
Easily the best trilogy ever.

Top to bottom probably the best trilogy of all time… followed by Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
