Godzilla fans - do prefer the character as a hero or villain?

If you’re a fan on the franchise obviously you’re gonna watch either way, but honestly think the character is at its best when he’s an ice cold villainous monster. In particular movies like the original, Mothra vs Godzilla, GMK, Minus Zero etc.
Not only is he a villain in those movies, he’s a dick as well. He goes out of his way to frick shite up really bad. In the original Mothra cs Godzilla he goes out of his way to kill Mothra’s unmatched babies…just because. In the original movie it isnt enough to destroy Tokyo but he also has to eat a train full of people just because.
The hero version is obviously the more mainstream popular version, but he’s always been a great villain.

I mean in Giant Monsters All Out Attack, he kinda just starts killing everyone for zero reason and brutally killed what was basically a giant dog monster

This should be the correct answer. He is a protector of the earth as its Alpha and will be a villain to anyone or anything trying to either unseat him as alpha or destroy the earth and its balance.

The movies in which he's the villain take on a much more serious tone, and that's my preference.

As others have said, a chaotic neutral.
Godzilla harbors no ill intent towards mankind. He’s just a territorial beast.
By the way. I despise, absolutely despise GVK and GXK and pray that Godzilla: Supernova gives us a dark tone like G14.
I’m a hardcore Godzilla fan. I have shin Godzilla tattoo’d on my shin as part of my kaiju leg sleeve

Dr. Rick Stanton - Jesus...Good thing he's on our side.
Dr. Ilene Chen - For now.
Godzilla is protective of his territory and we just happen to be a part of his 'stuff'. I think that's the extent of the 'hero' in Godzilla. Unless it's the original, Minus One version, where he's full on a dick who goes out of his way to stomp on people just because he's got a massive chip for man's use of atomics on his world.
