So, honestly, what do all think about so many saying LSU wins championship this year?

I like our quarterback coming back. I like the portal recruiting class we had. However, is everyone as optimistic as what social media is saying? If so, why, if not, why?

With Kelly at the helm, they will underwhelm in big games.

This is by far the best team Kelly has had at LSU. It’s playoff or bust legitimately. Once we get to the Playoff, anything can happen. There isn’t one team in America that scares me, heck Clemson is top 5 and we are only 2.5 point underdogs at their place.

Everything hinges on the Clemson game. Will set the tone with a win. Not saying we can’t make the playoffs with a loss but we gotta win this game

People can call it sunshine pumping if they want. The truth is this is the best LSU team since 2019.
We return Nuss and that’s huge. He was better last season than both Burrow and Daniels were in their first season’s at LSU.
The defense has been completely revamped, top to bottom. We have a legitimate deep d-line, with solid edge rushers, and beef in the middle. LB room is solid with athleticism. DB room has taken a massive step up in the talent pool.
LSU has much better weapons offensively this year than last. WR room is one of the best in the country. RB room looks as good as it has in a few years. Durham should take a big step up. Stacked in the TE room too.
If the offensive line can perform cohesively as a unit, the sky is the limit. 2 big time transfers there, along with guys like Davis, Chester, and Adams.
The returning production is there. The recruiting class is there. The transfer class is there. People like to shite on Kelly, but he, along with this staff can coach. Schedule sets up nicely. Sky is the limit for this team, as long as they gel together. 10-2 regular season, but I can even see 11-1. There is not one team in the country you can say is definitively better than LSU this season.

Agree.
It’s easy to forget but if Nuss improves slightly, then he’s 1st team all-sec / All-American and gonna be really fun to watch.
If he improves anywhere near Burrow/Daniels in their 2nd year, then hold on to your butts.

I really feel like “why not us?”
who’s really better?
who’s really better?

We should make the playoff. I don’t think we have a championship winning team though. Hope I’m wrong. Nuss will need to make that 2nd year bump.

Kinda where I'm at. I have to be convinced BK can consistently win the bigger game and he has to win game 1 for a change. I also think our OL is going to underwhelm for at least the first half of the season.
Portal chemistry takes awhile to get going so in this new portal era if you're going to be scheduling Power 5 teams like Clemson OOC, you need to do it midseason when roster turnover doesn't slaughter team chemistry even if you have to do it in SEC gauntlet scenarios.
As of right now, pretty much everything Notre Dame fans complained about BK have come true at LSU. He has a chance to silence that this season.

If this LSU team can’t demolish everyone on their schedule 2011 style then Kelly should be fired.
Just jk for those who can’t detect sarcasm worth a flip

The OL is the only weak or rather unproven link in the team, right? That and the skill position transfers panning out.

This season relies on 3 things.
1) Nuss not throwing games.
2) The Offensive line playing "well". They dont need to be great, just good enough.
3) The defense being better than they were last year.
I'll get downvoted, but yall got plenty of time to go back and watch all of last year's games on Youtube, which they are. Nuss won as many games as he cost us. He's a good college QB, but he's not great, no matter what the "numbers" or LSU fans like to think. He needs to grow and make the correct decisions with the balls. Sometimes it's better to throw it away, rather than force the ball deep or even take the sack to live another day rather than throwing it off your back foot into double coverage. We all know the struggles with just tucking it and running.
We need a running game, which will help Nuss immensely. This revolves around the OL doing well, as well as the RBs making the right reads, which they struggled with last year. The OL wasnt as bad as yall think last year.
The defense wasnt nearly as good as a lot of people act around here. Perkins needs to be a hybrid safety "star" role and nowhere near the line of scrimmage. Whit struggled mid-season, and then turned it on late. Our DL should be a strength this year, when last season even though they played well it was a weakness.
Our DB/safeties need to be better all around. Tackling, coverage, man, zone etc. Just be better all around. Nothing crazy, just be better and we win 12 games.

I feel like this entire "big game" thing is confirmation bias at this point.
What about Ole Miss and Bama in 2022? Ole Miss last year?

You think he has consistently won the big games? Because if he did, we wouldn't be having this conversation would we and LSU wouldn't be performing below expectations right? BK had 3 NFL superstars on his roster last year including a hesiman QB and couldn't sniff the playoffs not even close because his defense was historically that bad. His first year he did a good job but if you also step back to look at that season you'll see the SEC was extremely weak outside a few teams. That's why Georgia plowed LSU in the championship the west was extremely weak overall.
Like I said, he's going to have to earn it because so far he has basically performed below expectations for LSU. If he goes into game 1 with, what? 5 straight opening day losses fans are going to be blow gaskets. A lot of the talking points ND fans warned LSU about seem to be true. Like, inconsistency in big games, needs a yes man at OC(that's why Sloan exists), terrible special teams management, throws outside hashes too much, etc.
We're headed into year 4 and he still hasn't figured out how to fix LSU's special teams which should be one of the easier jobs. He botched the defensive hiring so bad it cost LSU a playoff season. As far as recruiting goes, you can definitely debate he hasn't lived up to this part either as he's not producing enough studs on the field yet though this is still tbd.
I don't think he's a bad coach I'm just not convinced he can win us some hardware yet.

It’s all about the pitching.

No, there's really no one (outside of Saban) that consistently wins "big games."

Again, what coach isn't "inconsistent" in big games? It's confirmation bias.

Denbrock was one of those supposed "yes men" for a coach they claim sucks, and that same Notre Dame made him the highest paid OC in America last year.

terrible special teams management,
At times, sure

Wut?

Fair enough but in reality, who are you convinced could win hardware here?

LSU will be ranked #1 by October. This is the best roster Kelly has had and he’s about to roll with it.
