I was just thinking why haven't I seen any movies or TV shows filmed in New Orleans this year. In the 2000s and 2010s, so many films and tv shows had New Orleans or South Louisiana in the background. I searched for more info and this article popped up. Basically it is talking about the industry being on life support but they are optimistic and working to revive it. However I'm not optimistic. NOLA has terrible leadership, it's no longer as cheap as it used to be to live there which impacts filming budgets, and nobody really watch TV or go to the movies like they used to.

Will New Orleans remain the Hollywood of the South or will it become a thing of the past?

The taxpayers were financing it. Another brilliant move by our politicians. Make no doubt they got theirs though

Hey so what’s up with black people writing using improper singular/plural form?

No hate I write kinda odd here too at times, just curious.

Maybe whatever is going on with the tariffs will help the industry. I've got a buddy who does props and I know work has been hard to come by

I know actors who work in the hospitality industry that relied on that second income of the film industry. Welp now they work more hospitality jobs and uber ... they can't find acting gigs which they enjoy way more than hospitality.and uber.

Does Louisiana know that? I've seen NOLA get referenced as the Hollywood of the South quite a few times in the last few years

It was, I just checked. I didn't know that, learned something new. But still that's a small fraction of the filming activity that used to be in the state

It seems like there should be a lot better ways to stimulate the local economy than throwing money at the film industry.

It’s dead everywhere including Georgia and California. It’s why Trump announced tariffs on films produced internationally. Vancouver and Croatia are particularly popular for the big studios.

The state stopped allowing the film industry to take advantage of NOLA and they moved on to someplace that was willing. The film industry was the only one benefiting from the agreement. Sorry your friends can’t find work locally anymore in the industry but the state is better off without Hollywood.

The film industry brought money and jobs into the state. A tax credit is not giving money away, it incentivizes business by reducing the tax burden. This is something that happens all the time in every state for industries to bring jobs and spend other money.
