This is interesting & it looks to be just the beginning of issues down the road for the upcoming revenue sharing settlement.

LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, often considered one of the most successful beneficiaries of the NIL (name, image, and likeness) era, has submitted a formal objection to the proposed House v. NCAA settlement. On Monday, she appeared over Zoom to present her issues to Northern District of California judge Claudia Wilken during the approval hearing in the case.
Dunne was specifically objecting to the distribution of damage claims. The settlement would offer $2.8 billion in damages to players who couldn’t earn NIL money before the NCAA changed its rules in 2021. But Dunne says female athletes—including her—are getting shortchanged in the portions of damages. She has millions of followers across social media platforms, has signed numerous endorsement deals, and boasts a $4.1 million NIL valuation.

“This settlement doesn’t come close to recognizing the value I lost,” she said. Dunne noted that all the NIL earning projections about her “have underestimated my actual earnings.”
Dunne then went on to say that the website to sign up for the settlement didn’t work when she first started using it. Then, she wasn’t able to see how much she would receive unless she opted in—which she wasn’t sure she wanted to do. She said when she got that number (which she declined to state), it was much less than she was worth and never heard back from the settlement administrator.

I dont direct this at any lsu alumni. They’re entitled to do what they need to maximize their situation. Good for them, whatever.
But I HATE college sports now. This is repulsive.

Can’t wait for all these kids to pay taxes and see what the real world is about.

and in this case a non revenue sport that very few care about, I'd have to go back and do some digging but I'm pretty sure that we no longer have a men's gymnastics program because of Title IX, is she going to advocate for reparations for them too? no one gives a shite about her if it weren't for skeevy old pervs(not skeevy old perv shaming,) didn't like to stroke it it over the pics of her in skimpy outfits that saturate the internet

Women in sports don’t understand economics.

This is a big reason I no longer care all that much about sports. The greed is ridiculous.

I mean she's actually one of the few people that actually lost out on millions of actual NIL dollars, not the pay for play dollars. She gets her money from her popularity on social media (name, image, likeness), not necessarily from her gymnastics performances.

Louisiana is trying to pass a bill where NIL money is exempt from state tax

Her greed doesn't really have anything to do with sports. She could have ben making millions off her social media but wasn't allowed to.

What economics does she not understand?

And her popularity went through the roof on the back of LSU’s brand.
If she was a gymnast at ULL, she’d be worth a fraction of what she is.

yes. good post. someone like Addison Rae became a millionaire over night because of social media. Olivia Dunne was not allowed because she was an athlete.

Well they don't have a gymnastics program but it was clearly mutually beneficial for both. It probably wasn't her asking LSU to go to Times Square on the first day of NIL.

I feel like she should be in her 30's by now, but somehow still looks like she's 15

considering she knows why she makes now, i’m sure she has a decent grasp on what she lost in the years she wasn’t allowed to earn.
