Why is surrogacy legal?

Isn’t it weird that we have a bunch of rich people who don’t want the hassle of pregnancy going to poor people or 3rd world countries to buy other women’s children?
Or gay men who go child shopping from women in desperate need of cash.

This is more adoption, to me.
Surrogacy is when those rich people create their own embryo and then implant it into a poor 3rd world woman to house for 9 months

Have you ever tried to adopt a child in the US? It's an absolute cluster frick and that's why a lot of folks go overseas to adopt (or at least did until some changes started happening overseas).
And it's not always people who are rich or people who just don't want to be pregnant. I've known multiple people to adopt who physically couldn't have children.

I have no issues with adoption
Two men flying to Thailand the paying a woman who is desperate for cash to have your child and bringing that child back to never see the mother again is inhumane.

Then that's up to Thailand and their population to regulate that.
Also seems short sided to want to illegalize surrogacy as a whole because of a rare case of surrogacy you don't agree with.

The better question is why is it ILLEGAL in Louisiana?
It’s idiotic - I know multiple women personallly who struggle to have kids and look into surrogacy but the cost is prohibitive for most.
One of them is going through with it though

do you have #s on "normal" surrogacy (married couples who can't physically carry a child) vs. other (gay men, surrogacy for convenience, etc.)?
I'm genuinely asking - I don't know that one or other other is rare vs. not, but I'm not convinced that the latter category is "rare"

When I was married we asked my sister in law if she would be one since my wife couldn't have a child. Neither were poor or 3rd world lol.

Not sure why it’s legal but it’s been around a long time. First reported surrogate baby was born around 2000 years ago to a middle eastern young woman named Mary. Or so I’m told.
