Trump is not enacting tariffs so we can have tariffs, he's trying to get rid of them.

Maybe I'm not reading this right, but it seems to me that what he is trying to do is convince other countries to remove their tariffs on American goods. The way he is doing this is by enacting reciprocal tariffs.

If other countries remove their tariffs on our goods, there will be no tariffs on their goods.

The fact that he has to explain this to the MSM speaks volumes about where we are as a society.

I can’t figure out if it is about american producer protectionism, revenue for the federal government or trade war tactics.

Exactly.

It's amazing. Progs are crying saying how tariffs hurt Americans, yet other countries have even higher tariffs.

Like always, it's only bad when we do it.

I laugh at how many of his die hard supporters don't seem to understand this. They would rather debate how the 50% tariff going to frick this or that country.

This has been the goal from the get go. It is working also. Many people here cannot see the forest for the trees though.

Can you explain the contradictory plan to me?

Using tariffs to get rid of tariffs is like borrowing to get out of debt....

It’s 100% to get rid of them and the trade deficits. It feels like we have been subsidizing the whole world. POS politicians like Turtle benefited from this. It’s time to end it all.

Why don't we see the progressives over there slitting their wrists over their own tariffs, then? Europe is full of them.

It's whatever you want them to be.

We are simultaneously going to bring in so much money from tariffing imports that we will no longer have to pay federal income taxes.

AND

Companies who are currently importing are going to move all of their ops to the US to avoid the tariffs

AND

Trump is just using tariffs to induce other countries to drop their tariffs. Once they do, the US tariffs will be dropped as well.

It makes sense if you don't think about it too much.

Youre trying to find rationality in something progressives do?

“No no no! He’s clearly an idiot that doesn’t understand what he’s doing! Is he purposely trying to ruin the economy??!”

Those are things I’ve heard recently. Some people really don’t realize that THEY are in fact a moron.

It seems he expects some tariffs or he would not advocate that he expects "external revenue."

Reciprocal tariffs would hopefully work to lower tariffs in both ways to manageable numbers.

Trump is certainly smarter than your average anchorage community college grad when it comes to business and economics.

So the best option would be to just sit here and take it up the arse. Gotcha.

Sure.

When Trump creates tariffs, or increases tariffs we already have, what is his demand?

To lower their tariffs.

Since he ultimately wants them to lower their tariffs, doesn't this seem like trade war tactics?
