If something happens and we fall out of the top 5 picks.

Depending who is on the board I really wouldn’t be mad if we took a gamble on Khaman Maluach from Duke. You can’t teach 7’2” 250 with the agility and ability to switch and move in the paint could make him a defensive monster and a lob threat on offense. Just seeing him go from the 3 point line on defense down to the paint in the blink of an eye is really impressive for a guy his size. I know we just took Missi and he has promise but we have been bullied on the glass this year and a lot of the good teams have 2 legit big men. VJ Edgecombe, Tre Johnson and Kon Knueppel are also intriguing for separate reasons but I think this kid could be the center we have been chasing for years. That being said of course I hope we get Flagg or Harper.

I find it very difficult to believe the team would invest in 2 raw bigs Two years in a row. Drafting Maluach would be an absolute shock to me even if the value was good.
Tre Johnson would be a good get if he's there at 6 and would pretty much be a CJ successor and allow the team to move on from him as soon as you draft him. But I have a feeling he's going in the top 5 when it's all said and done.

I do love Tre Johnson. He’s probably the most gifted natural scorer in the draft and has a sweet jump shot. I just know we have had a revolving door at center for years and I think Missi will be a fantastic rotation big man but I don’t think he’s a starter. Adding Maluach would then balance the current team’s lineup and give it the rim protector we need badly at:
PG: Murray (when he is healthy, CJ until)
SG: Herb
SF:Trey
PF: Zion
C: Maluach

Dude, I've been thinking this, too. With Jakucionis sliding, Maluach is in play for #5 prospect (maybe even #4) behind Flagg, Harper, Bailey, Edgecombe. Even with Missi's surprise rookie flashes, is he really set to be a top starting Center in the league? Maluach actually could make a Kessler like impact with more long-term potential. In FIBA and other leagues he shot the 3 well.
Tre Johnson looks good for sure, but the draft niks like Sam Vecinie and others have him closer to the #10 level prospect. Shotmaking and scoring is good, but doesn't have the passing or defense.

I know he wouldn’t be the sexy pick or star like Flagg or Harper look to be but we could do a lot worse to me by finding our answer at center for the next several years if those guys are gone and we are picking 5 or lower. Jakucionis intrigued me but I wonder if he’s athletic or dynamic enough at any part of his game to be a really good starting NBA PG. Maluach could be a guy that may only give you 10 points or so a game as a lob threat only right now but he could also grab 15 rebounds and block 3 shots a night, two things this squad sorely needed help at. The way he so easily flashes from above the 3 point line all the way down to the basket on defense in an instant just wowed me for a guy his size and he’s not scared to use every bit of it either the way he plays. He rebounds the ball with authority like Jonas did but this kid can actually get off the ground. He’s the guy you need going up against teams like Memphis with Jackson and Edey in their front court.

I don’t follow college basketball but are there any franchise players in this year’s draft outside of the big 3?
