According to Caruso, Rester said, "One day over that weekend, Walt came to my room and said, 'George, pack up your stuff. We're going home,'" Caruso said. "I asked George why this went from high interest to suddenly going home, and he looked at me and said — you just can't forget something like this — he said, 'Mayor, you are the first Louisiana public official at any level that I have ever been alone with for three hours or more that did not ask me for a bribe."

I had never seen a newspaper article with any real details. Just forum discussion.

DW was never going to be built in New Orleans or the area. Bunch of wanna-be’s with “my cousins’s uncle’s brother’s friend told me” stories. DW had already bought almost 28,000 acres in Central Florida in 1966 when it was announced/word got out. Prices there went through the roof with DW paying $80 for the first acre and $80,000 for the last acre.

Walt loved New Orleans - it’s why he has a literal New Orleans theme to part of his park.

But he was just using Louisiana as leverage, and always intended on the park being in Florida.

Orlando was appealing because it could support the park year round and has two north south highways nearby (I-75 and I-95) providing access to the midwest and northeast. The Northshore could support the park pretty much year round and has two north south highways nearby (I-55 and I-59) providing access to the midwest and northeast. It wasn't unreasonable.

Absolutely.
Someone from Shreveport told me a vague but similar tale once about Shreveport- "It could've been huge, it could've been like Dallas. But the old money people in Shreveport didn't want it to get big."
Ok.

The truth is it was never gonna be what Disney World was because they already had plans for Disney World by then in Florida. They had discussions of smaller versions in America and certain cities courted them but that’s as far as it went and 50 years later you can see it wasn’t ever to become a reality.

Louisiana wants so bad for this rumor to be fact.

and the linked story is 1963

Disney didn’t start buying land in Florida until 1964. It’s not far fetched to think Disney world could’ve been on the northshore but some Louisiana politician screwed it up

It’s been long rumored of a third Disney park in the US

I’m not sure if it’s still there, but this became popular in the early 2000s because they bought a ton of land north of Dallas

Disney later confirmed they bought the land, but they also said they buy land everywhere just to hold it for any future projects. I don’t think they ever held onto it, but I do remember talk of them having a third park in the center of the country

Dallas and the St. Louis area were mentioned. Walt was from Missouri and the OG Disneyland Park was originally going to be in Missouri

Universal is currently building the first ever Universal Studios in Frisco, TX north of Dallas. It will have plenty of land to expand if it takes off

I’m sure you cannot. It’s only known as one of the most unique cities in the world with a history of culture, food, and music that isn’t seen anywhere else.
But by all means prefer your Anytown USA vibe.

It also has the dumbest, laziest voting populace anywhere, constantly electing "leaders" who magically transform it from a functional American city to Port Au Prince North.

Piss on "Anytown USA" all that you wish but where I live has a fully staffed, well funded Police and Fire Department with capable leaders, streets that you can actually drive on and doesn't have unsightly graffiti everywhere. Also,I can go out at any hour and not think anything about it. I'll happily take that trade. If I get to missing New Orleans food or music too much, there's this magical place near me called an airport that has flights going there daily.
