I had a small tree (about 12in diameter) that I cut recently and the stump needs to go. I sawed grooves into it but its too close to the wooden fence and other flammable items that I couldnt just burn it.

I've never used chemicals but (other than getting a stump grinder which I dont want to do) i've heard they work well to speed up the decomposition.

Any of yall have experience with these or recommend anything in particular?

TIA

12" you can probably pull out with a truck if you are able to get one near it.

Drill holes and rock salt it every few days to dry it out and pull it out.

Grab a shovel and start digging. You can do a lot in 2 hours with a little motivation. Hack the biggest roots and pull it out

I did this over the summer only because I couldn’t stump grind or burn in the area, and couldn’t really wait for the stump to rot. From experience:

did this recently with 19 Ligustrum, 2 crepe myrtles, and a camelia tree. dig until you see roots, cut a circle around the stump with a Sawzall, I had a 9 inch blade on mine, hook up tow strap and pull with a truck. I now need a load of top soil to fill in the holes.

While I do look for any reason to use this badboy I got from a cool older uncle of mind one christmas...

..the stump, while small, is too close in proximity to a new fence to pull it up - at least closer than I feel is safe.

I just use an axe to get it about 5-6” below ground and squirt a little tricloopyr on it to make sure it’s dead. Hands and body hurt like hell the next day but it’s worth it.

I have heard old people say to drill a big hole as deep as you can and fill it up with sugar water.

Take the fence boards out.
Dump a bag of dollar store quick light charcoal on the stump.
Light the charcoal.
Wait a couple days.
Rake.
Re-install fence boards.
PROFIT

Pull the stump out with a wench.

I fought with a stump with an axe and a shovel, and a friend told me I was an idiot. He drove up with a wrecker truck and yanked it out immediately - as in 2 minutes - with the wench.

He was right... I'm an idiot, and the stump is nevermore.

What kind of tree?

I would assume your stump is an oak variety. Oak tree stumps are tough. I have used several different types of root-rot but they take a while to do the job.

If your stump is not a nuisance or causing an issue, just get some type of root-rot and go back in about a year and tie a strap on it and pull it out with your truck.
