FYI, they are just king cakes and did not incorporate any Hubigs pie fillings.

Thanks. Can't get them where I live anyway, but I thought they were making them in house and locals would be interested.

when I first saw them I was like yes. I think it was nola.com that talked about them recently.

They collaborated with Ziggy from Maple Street Patisserie for those familiar.

I tried one. Nothing Hubig about it. It was VERY dry. Half of it was left on the table and got thrown away.

The thread title sounds awful and you just confirmed it.

They need to stick with what they do best, and it apparently isn't King Cakes by your experience.

Tries a sample and thought the same thing. Glad I didn’t buy one.

With the cost of King Cakes I decided to look on-line to find a recipe and did find one yesterday to try out this weekend to see how it turns out and what I would want to do to tweak it if necessary.

Should be a fun thing to do and the recipe looks damn good too.

The last time my wife got a King Cake it was over $25 and not all that big to begin with.

Oh, I can't see a Hubigs King Cake being all that good. Their fried and baked pie doughs are nothing like a King Cake dough and they should stick to what they do best-------------and I'm not a real big fan of their main products to begin with.

Just saw a post in a food group on Facebook about Hubig's King Cakes. The poster said it was dry and the custard really wasn't like custard. He called Rouse's just to tell them it was pretty bad. They told him to bring it back and that they'd had a lot of returns. Doesn't sound like this is much of a good hit for Hubig's.

Do people really take a bite of something and return it when they realize they don’t like it?
(It’s different if something is spoiled, but returning a product because you don’t like it is crazy to me.)

According to that post, they do. I don't recall the cost of the Hubig's king cakes, but king cakes these days aren't cheap, so if you get one that's dry and you're not going to eat it, I can understand returning it. It's not the same and just not liking it.

Didn’t Hubig’s make a mini king cake way back when? It was about the size of your hand and pretty much just a pgg doughnut.
I can’t imagine a good Hubig kc.
