Wasting no time: The #Bears have requested interviews with #Lions OC Ben Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn for their head coaching job, per sources.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Jets are out
Bears are in
Pats and Jax remain to be seen. Front office seemingly sticking around make them seem unlikely spots for him. From an assets and QB perspective, these would be just as good if not better jobs than the Bears job
Lot of jobs just aren’t opening this year surprisingly
Bears feel like where he will land, NFL loves grabbing talent from the division

Bears seem to have a solid roster for a quicker turnaround, but that organization is just inept.

Man I hope the jags can get an interview but the Baalke thing gives me huge pause. I have to think Khan saying the coach would report directly to him is his way of giving a potential coach more power though.
Just not sure it’s enough although the jags are in many ways more attractive than Chicago.

Yeah I imagine if Ben Johnson is as picky as he seems he will go to a place he can handpick the GM and other positions.
Pats are also keeping their scouting team and possibly GM in place with their new hire so seems unlikely as well there. Vrabel just seems like a forgone conclusion there. But my guess is he either brings his own GM or gets his own GM next offseason because that’s what caused him to get fired in Tennessee.
Doesn’t seem like a good structure either way to not have your GM and HC tied together. Just asking for division and infighting

Connecting some far apart dots here but here’s a report that Ben Johnson will only take interviews for jobs he is seriously pursuing and one requirement is the ownership/leadership admitting the mistakes that lead to their current predicament
Interview is set with Ben Johnson and reportedly he wouldn’t take it if it were just going through the motions for Vrabel
Robert Kraft just did a press conference to say flat out he made mistakes and this was his fault, which you could read as a direct communication to the requirement from Ben Johnson about accountability within the org
Hoping he blows it away in the interview and they go for Johnson, even though it feels unlikely they’d go for another rookie HC

Looks like 6 current openings, seems like a pretty typical year in the NFL.

So Loomis would have to own up to his cap/roster mismanagement? Looks like Saints slim chances of an interview just dropped to 0.

Framed it poorly, I just meant a lot of jobs people expected to be open aren’t (LV, Indy, Giants etc)

Think those chances were already at 0 given the cap and asset situation

Got it. I would also throw Cincy in there. Many will argue they have a Top 3 QB and have now missed the playoffs 2 years in a row. Next year has to be playoffs or bust for Zac.

I’m not all that shocked by that one given Mike Browns history of being very reluctant to making HC moves
Probably very easy for Mike brown to talk himself into the defense being the issue given Taylor is an offensive guy and they just had their best season offensively since he’s been there
A 3rd year without playoffs would definitely put him on the hot seat but I think Mike brown in most cases would prefer to keep things the same unless it’s a complete disaster
And I think if he did make a move on Taylor, Ben Johnson’s asking price is probably too high for them
Which again if you just look at it from the owners view, they just had one of the best offense in the league, so going for another more expensive and inexperienced offensive guy probably isn’t as appealing an option

It was all Amy. She hated him personally. And it was mutual. Last straw in relationship was AJ Brown behind his back after being told they weren't going to do that.
That's coming from a buddy who works in the front office.
Vrabel is pretty rough around the edges. He hangs out at Richland Country Club in Nashville slamming cocktails and michelob ultras and chainsmoking cigarettes while he has a dip in. Dude is a maniac
Was a really good coach for the Titans though and was handcuffed by a terrible organization. They were tough, disciplined, and seemingly in every game they played because of that. He got the most out of his players.

Good luck in that division
