Better Day: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Christmas Eve is quite possibly the best day of the year. There is a buzz everywhere you go.

Last minute shopping.

Candle-Lit tenderloin dinner with a few loved ones.

It's A Wonderful Life and Home Alone on in the background.

A gift or two is opened to wet your beak... all leading to Midnight Mass.

Christmas Day is great, in different ways. It's better if you have kids because you see the joy they get instead of worrying about shopping any longer, but the build is better than the culmination it seems.

Good discussion points. Probably varies a lot by person/family.

Eve. Similar to a football game road trip. The Friday night is usually the most fun. It’s the anticipation.

Before kids: Christmas Day

After kids: Christmas Eve. Their excitement melts the heart.

Christmas Day. Everything is done. Just sit back, and watch your kids.

Christmas Eve. We always opened presents then.

I don't know why but can only assume he didn't want 5 of his kids waking his arse up before the crack of dawn.

Christmas Eve. Anticipation for the kids.
Before kids it was anticipation to have a day off in the crazy month of December.

The older I get, I’m an eve guy but kids make the day great.

Kids make the entire season for me. Living Christmas through children is pure joy.

Jesus is still the ultimate reason but to your point…

Wife and SIL have bdays on the 18th and 20th. Daughters is on the 19th. I’ve been hunting the same place for 20 years and the bucks seem to stir the week before Christmas. We’re a one income family so everything is on me to get two bday parties done, and also help my wife with her sisters. By the time we get to CE I’m gassed and excited to have it all done.

So it’s CE for me.

Same. Family gifts Christmas Eve since Santa comes Christmas morning.

Christmas Eve was always the bigger day for my family growing up so it's always been my favorite. Christmas Day itself is kinda meh.

Christmas Eve. Small gathering with my family versus a huge gathering of my wife’s extended family on Christmas Day.

I like both, but Christmas Eve does have that extra element you noted and that Pooh's trying to say here-

For Danes everything is over on Christmas Day. We had Little Christmas Eve on the 23rd and Big Christmas Eve on the 24th. Santa only brought clothing, so Christmas Day was never a big thing. Present exchange was done the 2 days before.
