Is it really accurate that there was ice on river?
Not terribly familiar with that region but seems a bit early in the year for river ice....Does the Delaware even freeze over regularly?
eta, I looked it up . Not a common occurrence and likely not jagged ice as painted but ice was present. The time around 1776 was considered by some to be a mini-ice age.

My ancestor was the helmsman of that ferry. My Grandmother was a member of the DAR.
