a company document instructs employees to "record an event if an interaction with a customer is escalating."
"The retail industry continues to contend with increasing levels of shoplifting and violence, often due to the involvement of organized retail crime groups," said David Johnston with the National Retail Federation.
Walmart isn't the only retailer doing this.
Earlier this year, TJX, the parent company of TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Marshalls, began equipping some workers with body cameras.

Don’t forget to turn it off when you go to the bathroom.

98% of the footage will be of the employee’s phone

Or our citizens can just be better and not rob places.

Good.
Anyone assaulting the people doing these jobs should be blacklisted from going back and fined.
Ridiculous.

Detain the shoplifters then force them to stand in line to wait to check out. The misery of that experience would be worst than any jailtime they might receive (and probably longer)

They could sell the footage as a reality/comedy show. We could all tune in and see how the poors live their lives.

I cannot even imagine the grotesque display of subhumanity those cameras will capture.

Do they really not understand that the people stealing have zero fear of being caught or seen

Wal Mart cannot do that so this is the response. They are trying to cut down on litigation and expenses.

is there a 'upload to worldstar' button on them?
Posted on 12/19/24 at 11:16 am to Shexter
This will not go over well with the thieves who notice they got caught! Way to put your employees in harms way.
Posted on 12/19/24 at 11:53 am to Shexter
Probably more a deterrent to employee theft. They will be able to watch employees attempt to steal, not ring stuff up, sit on their phone not doing shite, etc..
