Jay Crawford: Urban Meyer wants to return to Ohio State

According to Ohio native Jay Crawford, speaking on the "Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show," Meyer is open to returning to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
"Urban never wanted to leave Ohio State," Crawford said. "His hand was forced, because the administration at the time, did not like how powerful Urban had become at the university. And so there was a real power struggle."
"Note that the two main players that forced Urban out - and that's what it was - are gone."
Crawford said that he spoke with two people close to Meyer, who said that he's not only open, but possibly quite interested in returning to the Buckeyes.
Meyer, 60, coached at Ohio State from 2012-18. He led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014 and went 7-0 against Michigan. He was ousted from the job following the Zach Smith scandal during the 2018 season.
"With Urban, you're dancing with the devil," Crawford said. "He's a Buckeye, he's won, he's tried, he's true...can he win in today's climate? I don't know."

Is there an opening at Ohio State that I am not aware of?

Ryan Day about to get put back on third base.

So his heart condition is cleared up? His headaches? He probably wants to go save his boy and let Ryan Day be his OC. I hate Ohio State so I’m rooting for them to keep Day for as long as possible.

If OSU does this, it deserves to go into Nebraska level hell for a decade
The game had passed Meyer by so badly that he had to hire a new OC to help get him out of the Tim Tebow era of football.
That new OC happened to be Ryan Day

You think Ryan Day is a better coach than Urban Meyer?

I think Ryan Day is better equipped to handle 2024 CFB than Meyer is.
Meyer was having heart problems and headaches in 2009, when it was a much simpler time in CFB.
I think Meyer could do what he always does, come in, make a huge splash because donors will pay out their ears with him back, and maybe win a title off of harnessing so much talent for a 3 year period that they have real chances.
Then he will deteriorate either physically, mentally or have some scandal type thing occur and he will be gone.

Was Gordon Gee there when Urbs was coaching?

maybe win a title
I mean, isn't that the whole point anyway? Who cares if he leaves again a couple of years later.

Wait what?
That's an... interesting way to reframe what happened

You make it seem like they're currently dumpster diving for talent right now, wtf

Yes, but was not there when Urban left.

Funny seeing the mindset of fans in two different stages at two wildly different program levels.

Who wouldn’t hire Meyer if they thought it guaranteed them a championship in 2-3 years?

this kind of sums up urban meyer

Programs that already have a solid foundation. What exactly does he bring to the table at this point?
Established programs don’t need his baggage and realize the overall health of the program is worth more than a singular NC when dealing with Meyer at this stage in his career. He’s no longer innovative. He no longer has shown the desire, he’s a walking PR disaster , the list could go on but what makes him worth it in today’s game?
