Retaining players with eligibility would be a huge start so you only have a handful of holes to fill in the portal instead of like 16.

This. It would allow younger players to redshirt in terms of building quality depth which the roster lacks right now.

The portal is not NFL free agency. Too many people don't realize the difference. The percentage of impact players in the portal is actually low.

I’m just saying you don’t need to go out and get superstars, just guys with experience that can fill the gaps and be serviceable like greg brooks and mekhi garner.

Yall act like we don't have shite loads of analyst to evaluate players. It's not like we don't know who the good transfer portal players are and positions of need.
It's about putting the money on the line when the players want it. There's no secret evaluation or recruitment technique to get better players- it's free agency with no salary cap.
